Hello all - enjoying a nice drink on my porch last night and of course be looking at the stars. I encountered not one, but three falling fiery balls in the sky about middle Northeast.
Did anyone else see these?

2023.05.30 22:45 Evilmentalhamster All-Stars: All Legends
Saw a random comment mentioning Detox being a legend and above returning to compete in a regular All-Stars, and it got me thinking about whether there could be an All Legends twist in the future.
I’d think that an All Legends would probably work in the same way as All Winners with no eliminations. I also think that the pre-requisite for being worthy is having competed and lost in a regular All-Stars otherwise it could cause issues of queens trying to move to the non-elimination format immediately after their season.
Who would you want for a non-elimination season of “All Legends”?

2023.05.30 22:45 alexspyforever ESC 1957 Germany (Frankfurt)
The second edition of ESC took place in Frankfurt, Germany. Does that mean one of the German songs won in 1956 as the usual tradition is? Well no it was Switzerland who also hosted the first edition but apparently didn't want to host another the next year. To this day rumours persist that Germany got second place probably with "Im Wartesaal zum großen Glück" from Walter Andreas Schwarz but since no ranking was released to this day we can't know for sure. Some even believe Germany won. Anyway the good thing about this contest is that this contest can be fully watched with moving images. The director of this was Michael Kehlmann, an Austrian movie director. I sinceryly hope he was better at camerawork for his movies as it was filmed rather static and with a persistence of keeping the artists heads in close-up for lengthy periods which felt rather disturbing to me. Quality wise the songs were in my opinion a lot weaker than the previous edition with most contestants playing it rather safe and with little variety.
1957 saw the introduction of a real jury system where each country had to divide 10 points over the rivaling countries. So here it was made clear you can't vote for your own country, a rule which probably was not in place in 1956 but as of 1957 it was set in stone and never changed. Don't really know if that meant that 1 country could give the full 10 points to just 1 country. I notice however that only France divided their points over 2 countries while all other countries divided their points over 3 to 6 countries. No one ended up with 0 points and every country got points from at least 2 countries. Strange system but at least better than the shady backroom voting from the previous edition, which certainly was put into question and led to protest. To this day there is still a points system and no matter the result there is always people not understanding why song X ended up so low and song Y so high. Some things never change and this adds to the fun. Apparently the points system was borrowed from UK's 'Festival of British Popular Songs' which decided on the entry representing the UK in the ESC. So a scoreboard was introduced which was adapted after each call (by a traditional phone) from one of the juries of the competing countries.
With the 3 countries broadcasting but not sending a song for various reasons (UK, Austria, Denmark) last year now joining the competition there was no more need for each country to send 2 songs. So 1 song per country (and this remained so for later editions) but 2 people were allowed on stage (in 1956 only solo artists on stage). So more countries involved (10 vs 7 in 1956) but less songs (10 vs 14 in 1956). Last change was a rule stipulating that songs could not exceed 3 minutes but a few countries really went over that limit by quite a margin. Maybe that rule was introduced quite late and therefore no one was disqualified for exceeding it.
We saw a first duet with Denmark. Italy and the Netherlands had a musician accompanying the singer. We also saw a first prop emerging (Germany) and some other costumes than the traditional tuxedo or evening gown (Denmark).

- Belgium - Straatdeuntje - Bobbejaan Schoepen (32 years) starts at 3:15
Language: Dutch - Result: 8th (tied) - Points: 5
Just like previous edition the ESC kicked off with a song sung in Dutch however this time it comes from the Dutch/Flemmish speaking part of Belgium (Flanders). Bobbejaan Schoepen was the first Flemmish singer to try. Even though his success period was far before my time I knew that whistling was a trademark of his. He even had a song dedicated to whistling 'De jodelende fluiter' (The yodling whistler). Bobbejaan had an obsession with the Far West and often dressed with a cow-boy hat and later founded a theme park with a Wild West theme giving it his name 'Bobbejaanland'. Here of course he was as expected in a suit but with his hands in his pockets immediately giving him a pretty laid back attitude. The song is indeed a happy one about a melody he hears everywhere he goes making him happy. Don't think this had a chance winning, enjoyable definitely but in the end a bit too simplistic.
- Luxembourg - Amours mortes aka Tant de peine - Danièle Dupré (29-30 years) starts at 7:25
Language: French - Result: 4th (tied) - Points: 8
Just like last year Luxembourg send a female French singer to represent them. As expected she went for a French chanson about a break up. I'm absolutely no fan of these type of songs unless it has some quicker pace. Also I often compare French chansons with Edith Piaff whose famous hits at least had some recognizable melody and chorus. Danièle's birth date varies from the source. The most common is that she was born in 1927 but other sources say her birth year is 1938 which is a huge difference. Looks to me 1927 is correct as she already had quite a bit of songs as a minor star and retired from the music business in 1958. She would during the show become long lasting friends with her compatriot entering for France Paule Desjardins.
- United Kingdom - All - Patricia Bredin (22 years) starts at 10:55
Language: English - Result: 7th - Points: 6
Patricia Bredin had the honour to be the UK's first ESC entry. She won as part of the Malcolm Lockyer Quartet the first Festival of British Popular Songs convincingly. Patricia was in the first place an actress (Malcolm Lockyer was a film composer and conductor so makes sense) but also did musicals. Presenter Anaid Iplicjian (from Armenian descent) referred to the UK as England a few times. With a duration of 1'52 this song remained the shortest in ESC history until 2015 when Finland came with a song of only 1'27. So yeah I can be pretty short about this entry too. She has a high soprano voice so even if your English is good it's just hard to understand what she is singing most of the time. It felt more like an opera song and I guess that's why it didn't do too well here. Was the disappointing result the reason UK didn't enter in 1958 and also didn't organise the Festival of British Popular Songs? However from 1959 they wouldn't miss a single ESC. Patricia's song was never recorded or released on a single.
- Italy - Corde della mia chitarra - Nunzio Gallo (28 years) starts at 13:35
Language: Italian - Result: 6th - Points: 7
In previous edition two young females were sent, this time a male artist got a try. Nunzio Gallo was accompanied by a guitar player who gets quite a bit of exposure with some solos (a really long one at the start). Nunzio sings a ballad which gave me much more latino/Spanish vibes than Italian. He sings a love song not for a woman but for his guitar. This theme actually reminds me of the Belgian entry of 2010 Tom Dice with "Me and my guitar". The biggest problem is the song's duration with over 5 minutes going well beyond the maximum time limit. Also its very slow pace makes it very hard to sit through. Fortunately Italy would bring a real hit in the next edition.
- Austria - Wohin kleines Pony - Bob Martin (34 years) starts at 19:45
Language: German - Result: 10th - Points: 3
Debut for Austria but Bob Martin wasn't the first Austrian performing in ESC. That honour goes to Freddy Quinn entering in 1956 for Germany with "So geht das jede Nacht". The song is accompanied by jazzy music. Of course a 30+ guy singing about riding his pony through the fields is a tad weird but at least he seems to be having a good time smiling a lot during his performance. It's also the only song which is (slightly) more uptempo than the other entries. A last place is rather harsh but I can understand this song perhaps didn't really fit well in the contest. After ESC he remained popular in southern Austria. His real name was Leo Heppe.
- Netherlands - Net als toen - Corry Brokken (24 years) starts at 23:20
Language: Dutch - Result: 1st - Points: 31
The winning song and this time even a critical one like me will find it hard to disagree. If they stuck to the rules this entry would be disqualified as it is going approximately 1 and half minute over the 3 minutes time limit. However it doesn't feel like ever lasting like Italy's due to a good pacing, great vocals and some really good music accompanying the song. Dutch conductor Dolf van der Linden was so eager to start making the orchestra start before Corry Brokken reached the microphone. Corry's previous entry was a break up song now it's again about a relationship but one that is already lasting a very long time. So yes the couple especially the man have become old (and grey) and their love has become a bit stale. But since he can still flirt (with other women I suppose) his wife wishes he would be sweet and gallant towards her, give her roses, say she is beautiful and all that jazz just like the time they first fell in love (referring to the song's title). Yes it's kinda weird given the young age of Corry and it's rather schmulzy. Also the style is a bit the same as her 1956 song "Voorgoed voorbij". However her vocals and the accompanying music really make up for that. About halfway a violin joins her on stage who also gets a solo towards the end. I'm not surprised this won quite convincingly and deservedly.
- Germany - Telefon, Telefon - Margot Hielscher (37 years) starts at 28:30
Language: German - Result: 4th (tied) - Points: 8
Host Germany did the opoosite of Italy after sending 2 men in 1956, now a woman was selected. Margot Hielscher already tried her luck at the German National final in 1956 but was unsuccessful. In 1957 she won and became the first woman to represent Germany at ESC. She was the first artist to use a prop on stage. What was more applicable than a telephone since that was the instrument for many years to come for the juries of the participating countries to send their points. Margot used the phone for another purpose though, expecting a call from her lover. Between talking in several languages (mostly saying hello) she sings in a calm and soft voice. The song in itself is not that special but the phone as gimmick is cool. Her song was also too long almost like 4 minutes. Placing 4th wasn't too bad and we would see her return the next year with a more uptempo song (and another prop). For the German audience she was no unknown being active since the 1940s as both singer and actress.
- France - La belle amour - Paule Desjardins (34-35 years) starts at 33:40
Language: French - Result: 2nd - Points: 17
A song about love in a French café. I liked this one more than the French song from Luxembourg. It came second and I don't think that is undeserved given she has a lovely voice even though the song in itself quickly fades from my memory. Paule had moderate success with a musical career lasting until 1962. When she married she stopped singing and started working as designer for the lingerie company of her husband. Her full birth date is unknown, Spanish wiki mentioned she was born in 1922.
- Denmark - Skibet skal sejle i nat - Birthe Wilke (20 years) and Gustav Winckler (31 years) starts at 38:00
Language: Danish - Result: 3rd - Points: 10
Denmark made its debut bringing the ESC its first duet. They were actually the only contestants in the first Dansk Melodi Grand Prix where 6 songs were entered 2 by them as duet and 2 by each as solo artists. As native Dutch/Flemmish speaker I can clearly hear it's from the same language family (German) as mine even though I hardly understand a word of it. I like the sound of it though and while it's nice that the presenter tells us that the translation of the song is "when the ship is sailing out" looking at the man's uniform it's pretty clear he is a sailor saying goodbye to his beloved girlfriend and future wife who is also wearing a typical dress from the country. There is also some gestures like him kissing a picture of her indicating he will be thinking about her on his trip and putting a ring on her finger meaning they will marry when he comes back. Actually the sailing theme is already clear before we see the couple as the orchestra starts with the sound of a ship's horn. It's all lovey dovey and cute but it works and they sing in harmony, complementary. A top 3 placing was well deserved in my opinion. Oh yes and there was in the end an 11 second kiss which definitely shocked the audience. They were applauded anyway. Did that hamper their chances to win, nah I think the Dutch entry was just too strong.
- Switzerland - L'Enfant que j'étais - Lys Assia (33 years) starts at 42: 30
Language: French - Result: 8th (tied) - Points: 5
Lys Assia returned to defend the ESC crown of Switzerland. The new crown however went to the other returning performer from 1956 Corry Brokken. Interesting to note that her birthday was the 3rd of March, the same day as the the contest of 1957 took place. I can't think of any other reason why the ESC took place so early (usually it's in May). She wasn't however gifted a good end result finishing a tied 8th with Belgium. Hard to understand as I found this song about a happy childhood very sweet and more captivating than her entries from 1956. However it was also too long about 4 minutes. But vocally I found her a lot better than the French songs from Luxembourg and France. Was it perhaps too childish or too happy? Notice that the other 2 songs in the bottom 3 were Belgium and Austria both upbeat songs. However Lys would still come back for a third consecutive time in 1958 just like winner Corry Brokken. Lys would do well a year later but Corry suffered even a worse fate as title defender than Lys.
My top 10 was a bit harder to compile except the top 2 which stuck with me after 1 hearing. The rest is not too memorable for me.

2023.05.30 22:44 thedriodurlookingfor Last Character in a Legendary Chest - Impossible?
All I have left to get from the Star Wars chest (that is not a concession/decor) is Darth Vader. He's the top tier, most rare. I've opened maybe 15-20 Star Wars chests that have given me repeat concessions/decor every time.
Is it impossible to get the last non-repeatable item in a chest? Will they never give me Vader so that I have to keep buying chests, trying?
I've pretty much given up hope. I got all the rest of the 'good stuff' out of the chest over a year ago. They did give me the storm trooper they added before this event in the first chest I opened during this event. Other than that, only repeat garbage. I try every single time the chest is available, 15-20 times.
Has anyone ever completely emptied out a legendary chest of all non-repeatables?

2023.05.30 22:43 evilsniperxv How to tell direct report that they're not doing a good job and need to step it up?
So I've got a direct report and we've had multiple conversations about their position being detail-oriented. I've checked every box (that I can think of), to make sure that I've guided them about the position. I've done the task myself so they can watch it. I've let them do it and provided a verbal walkthrough. I've let them do it with step by step instructions and then I've let them do it on their own without any oversight.
What I'm finding is that when I ask them to do things, they're either not done correctly or they aren't paying attention to the details. I've attempted to correct them several times, but I continue to find issues. I've also noticed that it seems like everything is being done at the last minute before our meetings. Cause when I go throughout the week and periodically check their work, I notice it's either not done or not done properly.
How do I have a frank conversation with them that they aren't meeting expectations and I need to get a better understanding of where the shortcomings are, cause at this point it's unacceptable?

2023.05.30 22:41 Deic1602 Help with frontier mine strategy please
| Hello, With the frontier mine fresh in all our heads I was hoping I could get some pointers on my frontier mine strategy. I only found Anima's post on the frontier mine after this last one unfortunately. It was good and I was already employing most of the strategies they suggest I just can't seem to get much past IV-lvl20. I usually have Violet with the earpiece because she has the best elevator capacity passive, same with Santa in the warehouse. I have Damien but unfortunately because of the stupid update with the fragments required for rank stars I can't get his second passive of mine income factor. My strategy is usually to lean pretty heavily on Octavia and Violet for the first three mines while having all my mine SMs helping with passives. For the fourth mine I've been using a similar strategy to what I do in the event mines, focusing on getting the mineshafts maxed as soon as possible-Enzio w/chester or gordon(whomever's available) while trying to level up another mine, level up whichever mine has the best cost to return ratio with Lorenzo, then Blingsy, then Steiner, then finish with Turner, use the profit to level up warehouse and continue leveling, if possible, while Octavias running. Then use the profit from Octavias run to do the same with Violet. I usually have Violet earpiece, chester rare sneaks, gordon reg sneaks, turner rare money gloves, lorenzo reg money gloves, and blingsy with the umbrella. Sue and Mr with the USBs. This last frontier mine I actually stopped leveling the elevator after awhile since it seemed impossible to upgrade. I'm sure that was the 1600 elevator thing Anima mentioned. I am F2P except I have the no ads/2x idle cash package. I have included screenshots of all my SMs and equipment. Any help is greatly appreciated! 2023.05.30 22:41 AuntieKrisItsMe_ Not getting any better
Recurrent PTSD episode (I think.) The IOP group I was in just had a manic man join who triggered me so much I was screaming after the group. Life was wonderful before the original PTSD flared up in February. My mom and uncle became unstable and my mom started living with my partner and me. I couldn’t hack it and crumbled emotionally and mentally. I crawled my way out of this situation once before and it was the hardest thing I ever had to do. I pray every day for help. After this latest setback, I am convinced God hates me. There is nothing to keep me this sad. My life should be good. I have a partner and family who love me. We have money. Life should be good. But I wake up anxious and depressed with no end in sight. I pray to my cousin’s mother-in-law who killed herself to help me through this. I’ve driven past her old house twice today and yesterday. No one helps me. Even now, napping with my cat, I am plagued with thoughts I should die. I have visions of how I should do it. I would never want to hurt my partner or my parents that way, so I can’t. But am I doomed to live this cursed life forever? Will this eventually end? I try my best to be a good person all the time. My mom is here helping me but when I stand up for myself she’s starting to get angry with me. I’m on a work leave and will hopefully be going back soon. I just don’t feel like myself. And I hate this person I’ve turned into so much that I want to kill myself. I don’t think I can adequately describe how much I want to fucking die.

2023.05.30 22:40 Richard_Tickler Potential units with cult ambush?
Neophytes and acolytes are already confirmed and that's like a third of our roster. I'd assume metamorphs and jackals to be included. This leaves a very big question, what about aberrants?
Aberrants as they stand currently are ok, even after the point reduction. I think them having cult ambush would be a nice little buff. Currently they basically (or at least in my experience) get blown off the board if they fail to make the 8" charge from underground. Being able to put them in a transport (assuming rockgrinders still have transport), running them up the board, disembarking, charging, then getting blown away, and still come back the turn after(assuming 4+), would be a very nice threat with staying power I think we've been a bit lacking on.
Idk obviously this is just speculation and hopium. What are my fellow cultists thoughts and prayers to the star gods?

2023.05.30 22:39 zeekoes [WP] After being unable to solve the issues plaguing the world humanity decided to abandon Earth and look for a new home among the stars. Now, millennia later, humanity returns to its almost forgotten home, only to find a planet that does not at all resemble the ancient myths and legends.
They were slowly making their descent towards the verdant planet below. Earth, according to their people back home. The long lost home planet of the humans that preceded them in the ancient times. According to the annals it was a planet on the brink of atmospheric collapse, caused by centuries of unmitigated disastrous handling by their ancestors. They had abandoned the place to seek refuge among the stars and, whether they deserved it or not, they had found it. This was the first mission of many that were send to scout the situation on the planet. The dream had always been to one day return. Most of human history here had been lost and what remained was often written in forgotten languages. Yet, to the crew of the ship, it immediately felt like home.
As the landing gear his the soft ground covered by lush green undercover, the crew packed their necessities. They would sleep in the spaceship at night, but venture as far as they could during daylight. Trying to map the ancient cities and industrial complexes, that were pictured in the ancient texts. With a rumble through the metal flooring, they knew they had truly arrived. The hatch opened and provided a path to this forgotten world.
The first thing the crew noted, was the overabundance of forest around them. On the imagery back at home, this world was depicted as largely barren. Here everything was covered in thick layers of overlapping growth. The air buzzing with life that in no way resembled what they were prepared for. No sign of the large geometric skylines of the cities, not the fast gray fields of asphalt. Oxygen meters cited an abundance of oxygen. Which was somewhat remarkable, as ancients legends spoke of a lack of clean air being on of the reasons for the great migration. The party set out on food, through the field of trees and bushes.
Every now and then they’d find an overgrown structure that hinted at ancient settlers. The architecture was brutish, pragmatic, but not dissimilar from the architecture at home. That recognition sparked a sense of belonging inside. This place was strange, but also recognizable. In the same way you would recognize a square shaped out of negative space. There were signs of pre-migration human civilizations to be seen here and it was oddly beautiful.
The crew had wandered further than intended, distracted by the sights. The regional star was dropping below the horizon, casting longer and longer shadows through the already dark forest. The stumbled upon what looked to be a large underground complex. Large steel hatches closed of a concrete structure. It was easy enough to shatter the decayed lock and chain. The loud sound of snapping metal echoing through the eerie silence that had accompanied the departure of light. They had enough supplies to spend the night in this bunker, albeit not ideal. One of the party stepped in first, flashlight held in front of him he slowly stepped down the staircase into the darkness. It was less deep than they had anticipated. After about twenty meters they hit the ground floor. One of them tried the switch, more out of curiosity than expectation, but the lights in the complex turned on, to everyone’s surprise. That must have been some reliable power generator they installed in here.
They strolled across rows and rows of barrels. Steel drums, all yellow in color, positioned carefully. It almost seemed like a piece of art or something. Each of them carrying a label. Yellow with a thick black outline and in the middle a black trefoil made out of triangles. None of the records back at home had carried knowledge of these symbols. But if this place was so well preserved, they must have been important. They decided to roll one of these barrels out of it’s socket and pried open the lid, careful not to damage it. The walls of the thing were much thicker than they had looked from the outside. It was a thin steel sheet bolted to thick lead on the inside. That explained why the things were so heavy. The barrel was filled with a thick resin like substance, carrying pieces of something that radiated a beautiful luminescent green. Out of curiosity they switched of their flashlights and in the dark they could truly admire the artistry of this barrel. It was like looking upon the stars in the sky, but in a barrel. Captured galaxies they would call them.
They'd spend the rest of the night opening more of these containers. Each of them containing more ore less the same. Some in different colors, some with less and some with more of those pretty stars. They had decided to give up on sleep and take the day off tomorrow. This discovery told them something real and unknown about their ancient ancestors. Each of the crew giddy about what the others at home would say to this wonderful discovery. They weren’t exactly getting tired, but carrying those barrels must’ve taken a toll on their bodies. Exhaustion, in the form of a terrible headache and muscle ache set in. It was also deceptively hot in this bunker as some of our crew began to undress to cool down from the intense sweaty fevers they were experiencing. It was when one of them started vomiting that they decided it was time to leave the discovery rest for now and try and get some sleep. They could carry one of those barrels to the ship the next morning and examine it there. They all dozed off, exhausted, in pain and feverish, but at home.

2023.05.30 22:38 Kain241st Barotrauma Campaign?
I'm looking to make an RPG that takes heavy inspiration from Barotrauma and similar horror exploration games. I plan to slap my players in a submarine, give them a selection of roles to fill (limited numbers of each role), and fill out the rest of the crew with NPCs. Like Barotrauma, i'm setting the game in a undersea world where the players must navigate the submarine, fight off aquatic threats, explore undersea caves, and more. Not sure if i'm setting it in Europa, though that seems most likely.
While i can homebrew a a lot once i have a good system, I need a good system first. I was thinking of using the Stars Without Number System, or Warhammer 40k Rogue Trader. I need something that does good modern combat but not overly complex (we will be doing the vertical style of Barotrauma), I need modern and sci-fi weapons, some of which can be crazy powerful (such as ship guns), i need monsters, and more.
Please let me know if you guys can help.

2023.05.30 22:38 ZiggoTheFlamerose Can we get Mods Collections? Can I erase my mod.io mod list? How do you manage large numbers of mods?
I decided to give Outer Rim a shot lately, as the amazing blaster AI fix from HuJohner returned to us a great fun of being unstoppable clone-slaughtering Sith. To avoid possible conflicts between Outer Rim and the rest of almost 130 mods I have installed so far on U12, I came with an idea. I created a second Mods folder and dumped my necessary mods and Star Wars related mods in there. This way I can rather easily switch between "sets" of mods, renaming one of the folders to something like "_Mods" and leaving the other one with proper name for the game to read. Of course, I could mess with Mod Manager every time, switching the mods on and off, but I found it to be too much of a hustle.
This post is both a suggestion and a call for help. I use the in-game mod manager connected to
mod.io to download the mods that are there, most of that are maps. The massive inconvenience for me is that when I first launched with the new mod folder (with star wars mods), the moment I opened the mod manager to check if everything is alright, it started to download all the mods I subscribed to on
mod.io so far. I remembered that I tried to connect the game's mod manager with my account on
mod.io, it didnt work anyway. I thought that maybe if I set the option "linkverified" to false (restart the mod manager), it wont do this anymore, but it does. Is there actually a list in the game files that keeps track which mods I downloaded from within the game? Can I switch it off while keeping the mods downloaded with mod manager? I like the game's system more than Nexus, because I dont have premium on Nexus :D so big files download faster in game.
The suggestion part: I would love to see creating mod collections as a feature of in-game's mod manager. The game could create those mod folders, like I did manually, and switch between them. And when we subscribe to a mod we could choose to which list it should belong. It's amazing, that we can switch mods off and on withing game now, but when there are many mods, going through the list becomes tedious. Instead of that we could just select one list we want for this play session, cutting possible mod conflicts, clutter in wave book and loading time with two clicks, instead of 30.
Maybe there is a better solution that someone figured out already, but I dont know it? How do you manage large numbers of mods? Or do you just let yourself slide into a chaos with as many mods as possible? :D

2023.05.30 22:36 Cyanide_Felix I want to combine multiple planets into one MOC
I have quite a lot of Lego Star wars mini figures from the advent calendars and want to create a MOC with them, but they are all from different trilogies and planets. So I want to combine multiple planets and terians into one MOC so combining sand, snow and grass into one area to make it look good. I can't find any pictures of this online so I think it may be a first but that creates more problems as I don't have anything to try and copy off. If anyone has any ideas for me on how to do this please let me know but also if someone comes across a picture of this send it to me
