Alternate history: Brittany Murphy lives, but Natalie Portman tragically dies young
2023.05.23 13:20 Seth-Stacker-69 Alternate history: Brittany Murphy lives, but Natalie Portman tragically dies young
NOTE: This is based on the rumor that Brittany Murphy was supposed to get the lead role of Nina Sayers in the 2010 Darren Aronofsky-directed psychological thriller "Black Swan", and supposedly screen-tested for the role, but due to Murphy's untimely passing the role eventually went to Natalie Portman. So based on this, I made a "what if" scenario (relevant to this sub) in which Brittany Murphy got to make it out of 2009 alive and got to have a big career boost, but Natalie Portman tragically passed away young on July 19, 2009, one month and ten days after her 28th birthday.
So, you know Brittany Murphy, right? The teen sensation "it" girl who broke out in her role as Tai Frasier in 1995's "Clueless", who would then go on to appear in films such as "Don't Say A Word", "8 Mile", "Just Married", "Uptown Girls", "Little Black Book", "Sin City", and "Happy Feet", amongst some others? And you know Natalie Portman, who broke out as a child actress in 1994's "Leon: The Professional" and won audiences' hearts, and would then appear in films such as "Mars Attacks!", the "Star Wars" prequel trilogy, "Closer", "Garden State", and quite a few others? Well, there was a rumor going around that, before she died and therefore Portman resultingly got the part, Brittany Murphy was supposed to play the lead in the 2010 psychological horror thriller film "Black Swan". This was also made apparent by these photos of Brittany Murphy standing outside a ballet training class taken around 2007 IIRC which fueled these rumors.
Well, what if I told you that there was in fact an alternate universe or timeline in which Brittany Murphy made it out of 2009 unscathed and was still with us today in 2023 and got the lead role in 2010's "Black Swan" which gave her a big career boost, but Natalie Portman was the one who unfortunately died young in 2009 instead? Well, I will get into this and how Murphy's and Portman's respective careers would have fared in this alternate history.
Now Brittany Murphy was a successful actress: her career would have just been the same like in our universe AKA the one where she died young, still appearing in the same films like in our universe and stuff. However, the divergence of the timeline happens during Brittany Murphy's wedding to Simon Monjack in May 2007, where Murphy outright called her marriage to Monjack off, stating that her marriage to him wouldn't work based on instinct. This causes a scandal that initially ruins Murphy's reputation and gets her blacklisted by the industry, and as you guessed it, gets the attention of the media. Simon Monjack, hurt by all of this, then attempts to murder Brittany Murphy some days later (a close call to Murphy dying young in this alternate universe) and he gets a prison sentence for attempted murder. As opposed to Monjack dying from pneumonia in May 2010, a few months after Brittany Murphy did in December 2009 in our universe, Simon Monjack is instead killed in prison by a crazed cell mate. However, in this alternate universe, Brittany Murphy still gets to be the same optimistic, happy, quirky, and free-spirited young woman you see in that one video where she goes to Blockbuster, and doesn't even seem to mind being blacklisted by the industry. In fact, like with our universe, she still starred in the 2008 DTV indie film "The Ramen Girl" in this alternate universe, which makes sense considering she also co-produced it, but unlike with our universe, didn't appear in any films in 2009, seemingly taking a hiatus which she believes to be "well-deserved". In this alternate universe, Murphy is currently single at the moment, but unlike our universe, she is still alive and didn't die from pneumonia on December 20, 2009.
However, this is where Natalie Portman comes in: just like in our own universe, Portman's career is still the same, up until 2010's "Hesher", a little indie film starring Joseph-Gordon Levitt, which is where the divergence happens: shortly after filming for "Hesher" is complete, during the date of July 7, 2009, Portman suffers from a big fall from an apartment complex in Los Angeles, California. This is apparently said by the media to be an attempted suicide, but nearby sources (such as bystanders) confirm the fall was indeed an accident. Whatever the case may be, Portman is rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she undergoes hospitalization as she remains comatose. On July 11, 2009, Portman is declared brain dead due to head trauma received from the incident (but she still is not DEAD dead). She is still under life support, by her parents' request. However, seven days later, on July 18, 2009, her parents make the difficult decision to turn off life support for their famous actress daughter, and as expected, the following day - July 19, 2009 - Natalie Portman is no more, only one month and ten days after her 28th birthday. Since Portman in this alternate universe never married and had kids, she is survived by her father Avner Hershlag and mother Shelley Stevens. After her death, this leads to tributes from both fans and co-stars alike. (Basically, Natalie Portman's death in this alternate universe is the equivalent to Brittany Murphy's death in our universe)
Going back to Brittany Murphy, she in this alternate universe is offered by director Darren Aronofsky to appear as the lead character of Nina Sayers in his upcoming film "Black Swan", set for a December 2010 release. The film is released in December 2010 to rave reviews, with critics saying that Murphy's performance is "worthy of an Oscar". However, in this alternate universe, New Zealander indie darling Melanie Lynskey co-stars instead of Mila Kunis. Indeed, Murphy wins both a Golden Globe and an Oscar for her role in "Black Swan" (just like Portman in our world) and has a big career boost as a result.
In 2011, Murphy appeared in four films: the romantic comedy "Just Divorced", the R-rated fantasy comedy "Your Highness", the Marvel Studios film "Thor", and finally, "Happy Feet Two", the sequel to 2006's "Happy Feet". "Just Divorced" reunited Murphy with her old "Just Married" co-star Ashton Kutcher in this sequel to the aforementioned 2003 romcom which saw Murphy and Kutcher reprise their roles. This PG-13 romantic comedy went up against the otherwise R-rated raunchy romantic comedy "Friends with Benefits" which starred singer-slash-actor Justin Timberlake and Murphy's "Black Swan" co-star Melanie Lynskey in the leading lovebird roles. She then co-starred alongside the likes of James Franco, Danny McBride, Zooey Deschanel, and Justin Theroux in the 2011 R-rated fantasy comedy "Your Highness", and appeared in the Marvel Studios film "Thor", the fourth film set in the shared setting of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or the "MCU", playing the role of Dr. Jane Foster, an astrophysicist and the love interest of the main titular hero Thor Odinson, played by a then-up-and-coming Australian actor named Chris Hemsworth. Finally, she reprised her role as Gloria in 2011's "Happy Feet Two" (unlike in this world where she was recast with the singer P!nk, due to Murphy's death).
She did also film scenes reprising her role as Dr. Jane Foster for the 2012 Marvel Studios superhero crossover team-up event film "The Avengers", but they were cut. These scenes can however be found as special features on the Blu-ray releases. She also reprised the same role as Dr. Jane Foster in 2013's "Thor: The Dark World" a year later, but she revealed that sometime after the film's release that she left Marvel over "creative differences", as she didn't like how the character of Dr. Jane Foster was being written. This led to her absence from 2017's "Thor: Ragnarok".
In 2014 and 2015 she took another hiatus from acting (as she said she wanted a break from the stress that was induced by filming "Thor: The Dark World"), but in 2016 she appeared in three films: The R-rated action comedy "Deadpool" (ironically based on a Marvel comic but is apart of the X-Men film series, not the MCU), the buddy action comedy "Central Intelligence" starring Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart, and the biographical drama "Jackie" based on a true story. In "Deadpool" she played the role of titular protagonist Wade Wilson's girlfriend-later-wife Vanessa Carlysle (who in our world is played by Morena Baccarin), and in "Central Intelligence" she portrayed Calvin Joyner's (Kevin Hart) wife Maggie (who in our world is played by Danielle Nicolet). Finally in "Jackie" she played the titular First Lady Jackie Onassis Kennedy. In 2017, she played the lead role of Lorraine Broughton in the spy action thriller "Atomic Blonde" (who in our universe is played by Charlize Theron).
Then in 2018 she appeared in three films: the first being "Annihilation" playing the lead role of Lena, "Deadpool 2" reprising the role of Vanessa Carlysle, and the 2018 remake of "A Star Is Born" playing the role of Ally Maine (who is played by Lady Gaga in our universe).
In 2019, Murphy made a surprise return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2019's "Avengers: Endgame" reprising the role of - via repurchased archive footage and a newly recorded line of dialog - Dr. Jane Foster, and also starred in the 2019 romantic comedy "Long Shot" alongside Seth Rogen, playing the role of Charlotte Field (who in our universe is played by Charlize Theron). Later that same year, she starred in "Ad Astra" as the lead role of Royanna McBride (Brad Pitt as Roy McBride in our universe). She was also confirmed to come back in a new "Thor" movie at the 2019 San Diego Comic Con, revealed to be "Thor: Love and Thunder", reprising her role as Jane Foste"Lady Thor". It was initially slated for a November 5, 2021 release, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was then delayed to February 11, 2022, then again to May 6, 2022, then nudged over once more to July 8, 2022 by "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness".
In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Brittany Murphy then performed songs at her home with the purpose of raising funds for COVID relief. She also participated in "Clueless-ly Quarantined at Home", which reunited the cast members of "Clueless" (Stacey Dash was the only notable absence), also to raise funds for COVID-19 relief. During the reunion, she announced that she was going to start a full-time music career and may retire from acting if she felt it be necessary to do so.
In 2021, Murphy released her first album, simply titled "Brittany", which was a critical success, with reviews saying that "this was a well-needed listen in such cynical times". It was reported in early 2023 that she would be reprising her role as Vanessa Carlysle in "Deadpool 3", set to be released on November 8, 2024 (this also makes her one of the few MCU actors to play more than one role in the MCU). Also, in March 2023, she was confirmed to reunite with Dakota Fanning for a "Uptown Girls" sequel, called "Downtown Ladies", set for a December 13, 2024 release, and it was also confirmed that she will be reprising her role as Luanne Platter in the upcoming "King of the Hill" reboot.
TL;DR: What if Brittany Murphy made it out of 2009 alive and took Natalie Portman's role in "Black Swan" and had a career boost, and that Natalie Portman was the one who unfortunately died young in 2009? (This post took me a few hours to complete)

2023.05.12 02:42 Omicbob2 [Cali] [H] A most unusual set of CEREAL BOXES? Sayyyy what? Check it out. [W] PayPal or trades?
So, welcome one and all.
Step right up, don't be shy.
I know you're alk curious as to why I assembled you here.
I want to talk about a most unusual item...actual a set. A Set of NINE. Yes, nine CEREAL BOXES....
https://imgbox.com/g/R9Z9Z3MGfX Wait, you heard right, Cereal Boxes in COMICswap? Am I mad? I ask you, would a mad man laugh hysterically? (Laughs hysterically). Would he be crazy enough to think people HERE would want 35 year old cereal boxes? Even with comics on them, even if the boxes had THREE pages of comics strips? (Wrap your mind around that...THREE PAGES of comic strips on a single cereal box).
This here post is for the run of MORNING FUNNIES 1-9.
From the fine fellows who brought you PET FOOD brings you a smiley faced cereal. But you don't care about 35 year old cereal, and a good thing too because these are empty 'flat' boxes.
These boxes came with...come with...A extra 2 page stiff backing.
Each box contains 7 or so complete Sunday cartoon strips.
The boxes changed some of the strips as it went along so there are around 10? different characters and around a total of 50 plus Sunday strips over 27 pages.
These were...published?...between 1988 and 1989.
Some of the strips are
Luanne
Dennis the Menace
Family Circus
Hagar the Horrible
Marvin
And many more.
Condition best you can get, but ALL have bottom and top areas where the glue was on the box. No way you could NOT have this, unless you found some unused boxes, which I think is very unlikely.
The rest of any box is flat, clean and bright.
There is only ONE (# 5) that even has a store price stamo. The rest are clean.
It should be noted that there is,A FACTORY printing error on the Beetle Bailey strip. About half did not print correctly. I cannot find out if it was corrected, but I doubt it as the second box was released soon after the first.
It is extremely hard to put a price on this. I have never seen a full set for sell before.
I think you can put on together on the other site, for around $25 average after shipping.
I am looking to get $125 cash or $150-$200 trade or a mixture of both.
I will, of course consider any offer, cash or trade.
I have tried to provide photos, but could not get a good one of the inside, because to do so would mean creasing the page.
Please feel free to ask questions.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

2022.12.19 06:42 cuppytron Luann is (one of the) most underrated housewives
I’m rewatching RHONY and am just surprised how underrated Luann is. (I never see Lu stans.) She’s an OG and just watching her progression is crazy. From being THE Countess to the Johnny depp pirate to the “be cool. Don’t be all like uncool” is just amazing to me. She makes me laugh. Her unemotional or I guess blasé way of coming off to certain situations is so comical to me. She’s so (unawarely) herself. She’s such a mess but still portrays herself as an elitist. I know better but I am definitely buying it. All of it.

2022.09.23 04:38 AzraelleWormser About to do a stat binge: what random little statistics would you like to know?
I'm about to start a binge of the entire KOTH series, and I would like to track some little stats as I go. For example, how many times does Hank say "propane and propane accessories", or how many women do we see with Boomhauer? I've done this a few times before with
some other shows, but this will be the first time outside of that particular universe.
What I'm looking for are things that can be counted or quantified easily; nothing vague or open to interpretation. Also things that aren't already catalogued somewhere like a wiki (for example, you can figure out how many episodes most characters appear in by going to their wiki page).
I have some ideas for several things already, but I'd love to hear some ideas from fellow Arlenians. I may not be able to track every suggestion, but you never know what others might find interesting.
So far I have:
Hank Hill:
- "I tell you hwat"
- "Got-dangit"
- "That boy ain't right"
- "That tears it!"
- "Bwaaah!"
- "Thatherton!"
- "Propane and propane accessories"
- "Taste the meat, not the heat"
- Hank threatens to kick someone's ass
- We see Hank's ass
- "narrow urethra"
- We see/hear Hank's middle name
Bobby Hill:
- Bobby mentions fruit pies
- "Vat are you talking about?"
- "Okay."
- Mentions wanting to be a prop comic
Peggy Hill:
- Reference to Peggy's big feet
- "Ho-yeah!"
Luanne Platter:
- Cries loudly
- "Uncle Hank"
- "Nu-uh"
- Mentions her mother Leeanne
- Mentions her father Hoyt
The Gribbles:
- Dale without his hat
- Dale without his glasses
- Dale in his underwear
- Claims to be Rusty Shackleford
- Nancy says "Sug"
Boomhauer:
- how many women does Boomhauer get
- Someone brings up not being able to understand Boomhauer (no matter the reason)
Bill Dauterive:
- Recites his full name
- Seen in uniform
- Receives positive reinforcement, then takes it to an extreme
The Souphanousinphones:
- Someone speaks Laotian
- "Kahn Junior!"
- "Redneck"/"Hillbilly"
Other:
- Ladybird runs?
- Ladybird barks
- Ted Wassanasong says "super"
- Shots of the Arlen water tower
- "Rainey Street" written or mentioned

2022.09.21 23:07 Clocknik In Defense of Margaret "Peggy" Platter Hill and Some Other Thoughts
After watching a few clips on YouTube, I found myself re-watching King of the Hill from the beginning again. This usually happens every couple of years or whenever I get bored, whichever comes first.
Something that was ever present in the aforementioned YouTube clips' comments was consistent harsh, hateful words for Peggy. Incredibly hateful.
Now, I'm not saying that Peggy is not a narcissist because she absolutely is. I'm also not saying she's the greatest animated character to ever grace television screens. What I am saying, though, is that I don't think she deserves quite as much hate as she always seems to get. Many people relentlessly mark her as the worst character in the show and act as though it would be better off without her being there.
I have to say, once I started re-watching the series, I really didn't feel that way about her at all, especially in the early seasons when Judge and Daniels were more heavily involved. Kathy Najimy's voice-acting is incredibly on-point and a lot of her narcissistic comments actually give a good laugh because they're played fast and don't affect the plot (one of my favorites in particular is in "And They Call It Bobby Love" where she claims Marie looks exactly like her).
She also has a lot of really great character moments that are completely detached from her narcissism, like her protectiveness of Luanne ("Leanne's Saga") and her grappling with not being a teacher ("Peggy's Turtle Song"). In fact, I initially thought I'd skip "Peggy's Turtle Song" on re-watch but found it to be a better episode than I remember it being. I'd also be remiss to not mention "Cotton's Plot", which is one of my very favorite episodes of the whole series. Let's also not ignore when she realizes she's heavily taking advantage of Bill in "Bill of Sales".
In my personal life, I've dealt with multiple people who were legitimate narcissists, one of which was a family member: people with this personality disorder are very difficult to work with and are often insufferable. Maybe this is why I feel like Peggy isn't so bad: despite the kind of narcissism she exhibits, it doesn't quite reach insufferable levels (at least not in the early seasons).
To go on a brief tangent, another recurring theme I saw in comments was a championing of Hank and the rest of the Hill family as being an ideal family, which they absolutely are not. I get it: we all love Hank and wouldn't mind him being our neighbor. His positives do tend to make people gloss over how many issues Hank has, which, like Peggy's, are usually played for laughs. No one in the series is perfect and that's why we enjoy them as characters.
When you look at the show when Judge and Daniels were really involved, you have a lot of character growth and it starts very early. Re-watching I was actually sitting and lamenting that the show did not get this sort of treatment throughout its entire run. I was floored to be reminded that "Propane Boom" was the season finale for the second season of the show! Season 3 marks the conception and eventual birth of GH and Season 4 saw Nancy breaking up with John Redcorn. Season 5 saw "Cotton's Plot", which is another great example of character growth. These are just a few examples but there are many more (Joseph's puberty, Bobby and Connie's relationship, the list goes on).
For anyone who remembers the newspaper comic For Better or For Worse, it would've been amazing if King of the Hill had been more like that: a primetime animated sitcom that had continuity, character growth and development for the whole series. When you watch the early seasons, I think this is what Judge and Daniels probably had in mind for the show, before getting derailed by the Fox executives.
I would posit that perhaps one of the reasons people hate Peggy (and, for myself, Bill) is something that I'll call "Trait Inflation", along with character stagnation. I feel like this tends to happen when a show changes behind the scenes and you get new people working on it and writing for it. What appears to happen is writers lock on to a single character trait and expand on that trait alone and make it what defines the character. Hank is emotionally uncomfortable, Peggy is a narcissist, Bill is super-depressed and will do anything for anyone, etc. This isn't unique to King of the Hill, as I've seen it happen in other series too, e.g. Dr. Zoidberg does not start out as the "punching bag" character in Futurama but he ultimately becomes such. When a series ends, this leaves viewers with potentially worsened versions of the characters, which stay in your memory because the end of the series is more recent than the beginning. I feel like this is mostly what happened to most people with Peggy, using my own opinion of Bill as a comparison, as well as other truly bizarre character moments near the end of the show's run, e.g. Cotton's will dictating he be flushed down a toilet despite having a veteran's plot, Hank paying sticker price for a new car despite exhibiting awareness of price inflation and negotiation when replacing his truck.
Either way, this is just my long, rambling opinion about Peggy as a character and that I don't think really deserves all the intense hate that she gets. If my post makes you feel any strong emotions, just stick it into a little pit inside your stomach and never let it out. Or just treat it like a tire fire: grab a beer and let it burn.
Thanks for reading! :)

2022.07.25 16:00 gtam5 All 12 FBS teams from Texas as King of the Hill characters
King of the Hill is an iconic animated series set in Texas, so what better show could be used to represent the college football teams of the Lone Star State? Now, without further ado:
- Baylor: Junie Harper. On the show, Junie is a religious fundamentalist who tries to stop the residents of Arlen from celebrating Halloween. Similarly, in 2011 Baylor channeled all of its buzzkill energy by threatening legal action in an attempt to stop Texas A&M from leaving for the SEC. Junie would also approve of Baylor’s required chapel for first year students and strict no alcohol policy.
- Houston: Kahn Souphanousinphone. Just like Kahn is the new guy on the block, Houston is one of the newest members of the Big 12. And just as Kahn is often more capable than many of the regulars, Houston has a football program that’s in better shape than many of the longtime Big 12 members. Plus, the city of Houston is home to many residents of southeast Asian descent like Kahn.
- North Texas: Luanne Platter. Luanne has had a lot of struggles in her life, just as the Mean Green struggled mightily over the course of the 2021 season during a six-game losing streak. But just as Luanne eventually found some success as a hair stylist and married Lucky, North Texas pulled together a five-game winning streak to close out the season and managed to make a bowl game, even if it was only the Frisco Football Classic.
- Rice: Bill Dauterive. Once upon a time, Bill was the Billdozer, the most fearsome football power in the state of Texas. Similarly, Rice used to be king of Texas football, winning 6 Southwest Conference titles between 1934 and 1957. But in both cases, their dominance was so long ago that now it’s just depressing to think about how pathetic things have become. Still, it’s not all bad news: just as Bill provides comic relief, the Marching Owl Band is known for its entertaining performances.
- SMU: Buck Strickland. Just as Mr. Strickland is a successful businessman, SMU has a healthy business culture, being located in the Dallas metro area. The football team also happens to be pretty good these days. However, just as Mr. Strickland is known for cheating on Miz Liz, SMU will always be most associated with its cheating scandal, resulting in the infamous Death Penalty being handed down in 1987.
- TCU: John Redcorn. Just as John Redcorn was lucky to be able to continually sleep with the hottest woman in Arlen on account of Dale’s obliviousness, TCU was incredibly lucky to have had the best college coach in Texas for 20 seasons. But TCU ultimately fired Gary Patterson, just as John Redcorn eventually broke off his affair with Nancy. For both TCU and John Redcorn, only time will tell how they adjust to the new normal.
- Texas: Professor John Lerner. On the surface, Professor Lerner is a highly impressive individual. He’s an erudite scholar of archaeology with a devoted young following, just as Texas is a top university with a high-ranking recruiting class. However, Professor Lerner is ultimately shown to be a pretentious, physically weak pushover and is repeatedly shoved into a pit, just as Texas was repeatedly humiliated on the gridiron during their 5-7 2021 season.
- Texas A&M: Cotton Hill. Just as Cotton is proud of killing fitty men, Texas A&M is incredibly proud of its military history and traditions. Cotton is one of the oldest characters on the show, while Texas A&M is the oldest public university in Texas. A&M also tends to lean conservative like Cotton. And just as Cotton’s best days were before he lost his shins in the war, Texas A&M’s only national championship title is from 1939.
- Texas State: Jeff Boomhauer. Like Boomhauer, Texas State head coach Jake Spavital has a peculiar last name. Spavital was also hired to his position at the tender age of 33, just like Boomhauer prefers his women on the younger side. And just as Boomhauer’s speech pattern tends to confuse people, it’s confusing how Spavital still has his job with a 9-27 record, or why he was given the job in the first place considering his previous lackluster OC stints.
- Texas Tech: Dale Gribble. Dale exudes chaotic energy, and similarly Tech fans are known for being a wild bunch. Dale throws pocket sand at his enemies, while Tech supporters enjoy throwing tortillas onto the field. Dale is the president of Arlen Gun Club, while Tech’s hand sign is Guns Up. If I had to live in Lubbock, I’d also probably spend all of my time cooking up conspiracy theories.
- UTEP: Enrique. Enrique is one of the most prominent Hispanic characters on the show, while 86% of UTEP’s student body is of Hispanic background. Enrique was also voiced by Danny Trejo, best known for playing Machete, which is a hand tool just like the pickaxe, the Miners’ symbol. But ultimately, nobody will mention Enrique if you ask them to list King of the Hill characters, just as nobody will mention UTEP if you ask them to list FBS schools in Texas.
- UTSA: Hank Hill. UTSA is a humble program compared to the giants in Texas, just as Hank is a man of humble disposition. But dang it, they’re getting the job done just like Hank. They’re 19-6 in the past two seasons, including a very impressive 12-2 2021 campaign that culminated in a Conference USA championship. Hank would also be a huge fan of Jeff Traylor’s 210 Triangle of Toughness, and would probably find a way to incorporate it into one of his lectures to Bobby.

Premise:
In this soft reboot, set 6 years after Killing Harmony, a boy named Kenneth Cole tries to survive a mutual killing game in a school also run by Monokuma called Old Sparrow Academy (based on Hope’s Peak and Ultimate Academy for Gifted Juveniles). He meets many friends and rivals along the way, including his true love, Dani. while solving murder cases with the help of a genius detective and her sidekicks. After investigating who killed who, a class trial occurs; whoever is accused gets executed, but if someone is framed or anonymously the suspect, they can leave the school, but the others will be executed.
PS: The blood is pink, some executions are SAW traps, and all elements from the games are implemented in the film proper.
It is a thriller movie. Monokuma is viler and darker, but he keeps his sense of humour. The film is darker than the games due to the executions.

2022.04.17 21:03 CarefulBathroom5689 King of the hill Theory/Spin off idea
check this out. thought it up while watching KOTH(king of the hill) the other day. here goes:
Basis of theory: There has always been the underlying issue of whether or not Bobby is truly Hank's son, due to many factors that are valid and seem to present themselves in the show. first reason: Hank's narrow urethra and the Hill's initial struggle to get pregnant. especially when they are told one episode that they won't be able to conceive because of that. 2nd Reason:Bobby shares absolutely no physical traits with Hank, he is unathletic, unaggressive, non confrontational, he's pudgy, acts like a boob, always eating or snacking. 3rd reason: Bill and Peggy have an awkwardly deep and a weird dynamic, especially when they're alone. it's common knowledge Bill loves Peggy as he makes it known a lot. Peggy treats him as if he's something she is ashamed of for some reason. Outcome here is that Bill is Bobby's father, product of an intended one night stand impregnation of Peggy and treated as Hank's. a la Nancy, Dale, and John Redcorn. so it is kept secret by both parties throughout the original series.
Fast forward 21 or so years into the future, Bobby, a failed Prop comic, comes back to Arlen to be a stand up comic at a club in Arlen. Most of the gang is there, except Luanne, Lucky and like Connie. Have the first conflict be that for Bobby's return party/BBQ, Bill gets Shit Faced, to the point where he gets outwardly upset at Hank for some petty shit, and then after a Peggy slight or Insult of him, he gets belligerent and starts bringing the truth to light regarding Bobby's true Paternity. Peggy diputes this only to be confirmed by Dale, saying thag he was always a little bit suspicious about one of the kids in the neighborhood being illegitimate and he tested Connie and Bobby because he knew that Joseph was his son from the aliens. Take that and the fact that the world is so Woke now, that the Hills and friends should struggle pretty hard in a lot of areas due of everyday life. so examine that as well.

2022.04.12 21:01 Keven250 RHONY & Substance Abuse
I recently watched a throwback RHONY reunion while high on edibles (lol) and I had the epiphany that most of the women are the definition of the phrase "functioning addict."
It was never apparent to me before because I guess I've always assumed an addict is "obvious" - like a homeless guy shooting up heroine. With these ladies, it's a concoction of reality TV dynamics & comic relief, so I guess I never put two and two together.
I recently moved to Miami and it's exposed me to this phenomenon of functioning addicts (they're everywhere here!).
For example, Dorinda gets outraged by ridiculous things and goes from 0 to 100 in a way that doesn't feel normal. Then the next day, it's like it never happened. She has no sense of awareness or accountability. I've learned from living here that this is cocaine behavior 101. With Luann and Sonja there's so much delusion & narcissism paired with excessive drinking. I'm not sure about Ramona - I definitely think she's a broken person but her behavior's different from the other ladies. I remember one of the first reunions, the other women claimed she had a drinking problem but I don't see any of the "signs" that I do with the other women. Ramona can be morally corrupt but it doesn't seem to me to be linked to substances IMO. And of course...there's Kelly Bensimon who's probably the most disturbing of the lot.
Isn't it interesting that SO many within 1 cast seem to struggle with some kind of substance abuse? I think this is why we saw Bethenny evolve from the likeable, refreshing housewife on the cast to eventually the tense, easily triggered woman from later seasons. I think she was fully aware of the dynamics of the women and purely stayed on the show for a) the money and b) her brand's growth. It probably reminded her of her chaotic childhood with her unstable & abusive parents, hence her dramatic outbursts with the other women non-stop over the years.

2022.04.05 15:48 AdRevolutionary6650 The 5 Housewives categories
I have concluded that each housewife falls into one of 5 categories(or is intended/edited to)- hot & boring, controversial, comic relief, sensible, or annoying. Here are my picks for each category so far:
The boring hot one: Dorit, Tinsley, Kristen Taekman, Robyn, Dolores, Cynthia, Crystal Minkoff, Melissa Gorga
The controversial one: Ramona, Erika, Monique Samuels, Danielle Staub, Jen Shah, Denise Richards, Ashley Darby (only because of her husband)
The comic relief : Sonja, Teresa, Karen Hueger, Kathy Hilton (not a housewife I know), Nene, Mary Cosby, Dorinda
The sensible one: Kyle, Luann, Kandi, Garcelle, LVP, Bethenny, Adrienne, Charisse, Carole, Sutton
The annoying/unlikeable one: Heather Thompson, Kim Zolciak, John Mellencamp’s daughter, Brandi, Larsa, Heather Dubrow, Rinna, Candiace, Jennie Nguyen, Leah McSweeney
Do you agree with these? Who are your pics for each category?

2022.03.06 21:50 Melonqualia [TOMT][comic strip][1990s] Luann comic about getting distracted from homework
I've been searching for this comic from the archives for years and I just can't seem to find it. This was almost certainly in the mid-late 90s, and it stuck with me because it's exactly how I was with homework (which I realize is probably describing ADHD lol)
Luann is doing a writing assignment on Shakespeare, I think, and she comes across a reference to the name Luann but spelled with an extra letter. She stops and thinks about how much time it would take out of her life if she had to write an extra letter. She does the math and comes up with the answer, to which she realizes is enough time to watch her entire favorite TV series. She winds up going to watch the TV show, and it ends with her parents asking if she finished her homework.

2022.02.25 00:17 FatimaMansioned "Ophelia and Jake" -short-lived comic about a girl and her pet
I remember stumbling across this while reading The Stripper's Guide website:
http://strippersguide.blogspot.com/2009/09/obscurity-of-day-ophelia-and-jake.html "Ophelia and Jake" was a newspaper comic created by Heidi Stetson, about a girl and her pet rabbit. It was syndicated for three years by United Feature Syndicate to a number of US newspapers and then ended. Apparently the editors weren't sure what to make of the strip. "Is it
Calvin and Hobbes with a girl? Is it an older
Nancy? Is it
Luann with a pet?" are some of the likely responses from comic section editors.
I find the drawing and humour of "Ophelia and Jake" to be charming. While I wouldn't class it as a "lost classic", I find the strip likeable.
Heidi Stetson Mario, as the cartoonist is now know, later wrote the children's book

| Round 7! **#10 NEW JERSEY SEASON 2 - 122 POINTS*\* https://preview.redd.it/73e5oghrrs281.jpg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0062df938dba61df9f3593bd7e0bdce08c0082d9 \ashandimlotion - 30 points, solovelysosoft - 5 points, gaymike219905 - 8 points, BasilGavin - 20 points, heartdeco - 10 points, MaryRhodaPhyllis - 10 points, readingrachelx - 4 points, MagnificentMistral - 5 points, ConnDeReplay - 20 points, DanaPam - 10 points** ashandimlotion says: "This is my most nostalgic season as it was my very first. I am a RHONJ2 apologist through and through. I like the Italy trip, I was genuinely invested (kind of) by the Laurita/Manzo personal dramas and I love every second of Giudice solo scene so that means I love a lot of seconds of this season. However, this season lives and dies (don’t worry not a threat) by DANIELLE STAUB. “There’s guys here with guns”, “I’m a clowwwn” “Is bye a threat?”, “Did you acknowledge your nephew? Did you?”. Her relationships with Danny, Kim G, Kim D & lesbian superstar LORI. There might have been very little conflict footage this season but all of it is in the top like 25 fights for me. Shoutout to the outstanding reunion as well. I also have such a place in my heart for this season as I watched this as my first season back in 2011 (!) when I was the same age as Audriana is now (!) so it’s sort of always been the bar to measure all other seasons by." solovelysosoft says: "I just really love Kim G." heartdeco says: "The season I’m most iffy about choosing, because all the non-Danielle footage is dire, but… the Danielle footage." MagnificentMistral says: "it’s all about danielle staub and the amazing kim g, a fantastic pair. danielle only films with a fellow housewife a handful of times, but each time goes down in housewives history. the first ever televised Posche fashion show is still the best. and of course, the reunion, where danielle, clad in a tank top and a sparkly skirt (fashion!), utters the immortal words: ‘did you acknowledge your nephew?’ alas, the Italy trip lasts forever, and when danielle’s not on screen or being talked about, the tre/caroline/jacqueline content can be a bit of a snooze, but the stuff that’s good here really is transcendent." ConnDeReplay says: "#BringKimGBack" **#9 POTOMAC SEASON 5 - 124 POINTS*\* https://preview.redd.it/g2v7vzepss281.jpg?width=1500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=985b971a377eb28415c666d2390c330dc92c972c \ashandimlotion - 15 points, solovelysosoft - 15 points, gaymike219905 - 12 points, BasilGavin - 5 points, heartdeco - 10 points, MaryRhodaPhyllis - 3 points, insuredbycoto - 5 points, RamonaCoasterTycoon - 16 points, readingrachelx - 13 points, MagnificentMistral - 15 points, ConnDeReplay - 15 points** ashandimlotion says: "The first half of this season was so fun I was in love with it. But THEN it shifted into crazy gear and the Monique & Candiace incident occupied my mind for months and months. This season occasionally got too much, but really it is one of the most memorable of all time." solovelysosoft says: "It wasn't exactly pretty, but Monique managed to go from a complicated but overall charming thorn in Gizelle's side to one of Bravo's all-time villains in just one season. I'll never entertain a defense of what Monique did, but the Monique/Karen/Ashley grime alliance is excellently diabolical. Monique writing a song taking a victory lap for assaulting Candiace, which she says she was directed to do as therapy, and then reciting the words in tandem with Candiace before calling her a fan is absolutely bone-chilling. What a finish. I also think Ashley submitting that statement is probably the pinnacle of "Things Ashley Darby Would Do" thus far." heartdeco says: "A season that builds to one insane event, presents it to you, and then presents the aftermath. It’s an interesting story structure full of consequence and foreboding. I don’t know if I’d do it again -- the whole season really was about The Fight, with all else falling into the background -- but it was gripping drama in real-time. Some say there’s a Monique bot in an obscure subreddit who hasn’t been told the war is over." insuredbycoto says: "I need to rewatch S5 and I think it will be more enjoyable for me separated from the endless victim-blaming fan discourse. Monique’s descent into utter madness is really satisfying knowing it all ends in her barely-viewed extremely expensive youtube tea spilling production. Stand up to bullies!" RamonaCoasterTycoon says: "The Winery provides a very dark center to this season, but if you can put aside the truly dire discourse about whether someone deserves to get the shit beat out of them for lightly teasing another person, the cast dynamic, divided as it is between unexpected protagonist Candiace and terrifying, cackling, parrot-shouldered supervillain Monique, is absolutely fascinating." MagnificentMistral says: "5 is absolutely mesmerising in the first half due to some masterful storytelling, not only with the monique/candiace foreshadowing but with the ashley/michael situation, loses its way for a bit in the aftermath of the assault as everyone comes to terms with what happened, but gains momentum towards the end as karen embraces her inner snake. it culminates in the spellbinding breakdown of michael darby at the dixon party." ConnDeReplay says: "I'm wavering on whether or not I'm giving this one too many points, but the appointment television impact of this season cannot be denied. Monique's villain turn is terrifying, and the fallout from the fight is some of the most grippingly bleak material Potomac's put out." **#8 BEVERLY HILLS SEASON 11 - 126 POINTS*\* https://preview.redd.it/xvx20loxts281.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d508891aa07b951ba67e23c86c0323c5885b8be1 \rajavirgo - 20 points, solovelysosoft - 5 points, gaymike219905 - 11 points, BasilGavin - 5 points, heartdeco - 10 points, MaryRhodaPhyllis - 15 points, insuredbycoto - 10 points, readingrachelx - 20 points, MagnificentMistral - 5 points, ConnDeReplay - 15 points, DanaPam - 10 points** rajavirgo says: "The season of Sutton. Yes, Erika's downfall may be the main storyline of the season, but I feel like without Sutton to ask the questions and push the story forward, it would have been a season of constant whispers and zero real questions asked. Crystal was a mega bitch (in a great way!), really carrying the first half of the season with her constant poking at Sutton. Garcelle actually showed up to events this time around, and what do you know, if you show up to events you'll actually be a good Housewife! Kyle also does some top-tier shit stirring all season long, instigating almost every single argument that happens. Who would have guessed that Beverly Hills would have the best COVID season?" solovelysosoft says: "I guess this is officially my favorite Beverly Hills season. It feels like sacrilege considering how popular those early seasons are, but as certified franchise superstar and Michael Myers evader Kyle says: I should just be honest. Erika is exactly the character I always wanted her to be, an ice-cold enigmatic villain who knows much more than she is letting on (and when she DOES peel back the layers it's because Tom was burgled and he fought the burglars and he needed eye surgery and her son drove to help him and rolled his car five times). Newbies Sutton and Crystal are immaculate with a dumb as fuck and hilarious feud in the first half before shit hits the fan and Garcelle really shows up in a way that lets me know she's actually a mastermind in waiting." heartdeco says: "The unthinkable: a great, modern season of RHOBH. Everyone contributes one way or another, but special props to melodramatic villainess Erika and her weird halting rapid-fire cadence, story engine Sutton, and provider of gently loopy background content Kathy Hilton." insuredbycoto says: "Years after BH’s severe decline and Erika’s sixth season as a housewife she delivers one of the most tour de force housewives performances of all time. Once was not enough for me and I hope she can keep this up. Sutton was a delight as a real Shannon Beador shaky neurotic energy who couldn’t stop getting into fights with people! Also Kyle was good and I like her now, I guess." MagnificentMistral says: "i’m slightly underscoring this rn as an overcorrection for my recency bias, but this is perhaps the strongest single season of rhobh. erika is a fantastically compelling central figure, one of the greatest performances ever." ConnDeReplay says: "I was going to do a write-up for this one but Tom's house got broken into, he confronted the burglar, then he had to have eye surgery. Then my son went to help and rolled his car 5 times. So yeah, I'm under a lot of stress." **#7 NEW YORK SEASON 10 - 136 POINTS*\* https://preview.redd.it/bdpji9fjxs281.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=237868f46516687a7f5eb795e778d7af10ded28c \rajavirgo - 25 points, ashandimlotion - 3 points, solovelysosoft - 9 points, gaymike219905 - 16 points, BasilGavin - 15 points, MaryRhodaPhyllis - 10 points, insuredbycoto - 10 points, RamonaCoasterTycoon - 14 points, readingrachelx - 4 points, MagnificentMistral - 20 points, ConnDeReplay - 10 points** rajavirgo says: "This season should be in the MoMA. Flawless, start to finish. Every episode could be in the Hall of Fame. Everyone is at the top of their game. We all saw Bethenny v. Carole coming from a mile away, yet it still didn't disappoint. Carole was the first person to ever make Bethenny truly *work*, as her constant gaslighting and lying wasn't gonna cut it this time. Dorinda started her downward spiral this season, going after anyone and everyone as soon as the dirty martinis started flowing. Ramona and Sonja do some of their best work, bickering with each other while also relaying messages across the battle lines. Tinsley provides some much needed comic relief, with scenes like wedding-dress-with-no-proposal-while-looking-at-frozen-eggs becoming iconic. And then there's LuAnn. Do I need to say any more?" ashandimlotion says: "I found Bethenny & Carole to be a great, truly balanced feud where I could actually understand them both. Not a super easy watch as the whole season has a dark tone but all the stars are still at the top of their game this season." solovelysosoft says: "This season had a main storyline of Tinsley going shopping for wedding dresses with Dale and crying over a Xeroxed photo of her frozen eggs, and in the background Bethenny and Carole's friendship comes to an ugly end." gaymike219905 says: "Season 10...just when you thought 'how can RHONY possibly bring any more to the table?" Luann says 'hold my coke' and gets arrested in Palm Beach. We all had already seen the TMZ footage and knew it was coming, but to see it play out on the show was as thrilling as Lu slipping her dainty little wrists out of those cuffs. That honestly would have been enough for me if that was all that happened this season, but we also had the breakdwon of Carole and Bethenny's frienship. For some it was almost too hard to watch, but I loved it. I was rooting for Carole, and even though she fumbled in her reunion performance, I still beleive she was right in every sentiment and point she was triyng to prove. My favorite Ramona scene also takes place here, when she gets a call from Bethenny while walking Coco on the streets of NY. "Hiii Bethenny, howareya." It's quick, but as Ramona is often able to do, she quickly shuts B down and calls her out on alllll of her BS and it is delectable. The cinematography needs to be praised here as well, as the circling of Ramona and shots of Coco teetering closer and closer to oncoming traffic really drive home the horror of this call from Beth. Another favorite scene of mine, Tinsley and Dale drunk trying on wedding dresses and crying at the sight of Tinsely's unfertalized frozen eggs: "MY BABIES!!!!" And then of course, the ladies go to Cartegena and almost drown on a sinking boat." insuredbycoto says: "My pet favourite season of RHONY ever. I seriously loved watching Bethenny and Carole fall out. It was like that episode of Buffy where her and Angel are possessed by this Sadie Hawkins murder suicide duo but the genders are swapped, only this time it’s Bethenny swapped into Jill’s S3 antagonist position. Oh also Luann’s arrest, Dorinda vs. Lu, and the boat ride from hell. A stacked season." RamonaCoasterTycoon says: "The tragedy of season 3 repeating as farce, as Bethenny inevitably turns into her mother (Jill). But for as much as that was the focus of this season, what really speaks to me is the moment in the finale where you can see a seething Dorinda spontaneously decide that she's gonna completely wreck Luann as jaunty cabaret music plays." MagnificentMistral says: "10 feels like the climax of everything that came before it. The erosion of the relationship between carole and bethenny is a fantastic central “feud”, slowly building up more and more resentment until a reunion where they’re both absolutely hopping with rage. lu continues her singular reality tv journey by getting arrested and then metamorphosising into a cabaret star, falling out with dorinda along the way. i think what makes this season so impressive is that it has such a strong first episode and it just never lets up. the episodes themselves are highlight reels, a fantastic cast all at the top of their game." ConnDeReplay says: "You either die a Bethenny, or live long enough to see yourself become the Jill." **#6 NEW YORK SEASON 3 - 139 POINTS*\* https://preview.redd.it/ky1ghn3c2t281.jpg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6b65b8663a7c6b484a602f49375ca831b76ba92c \rajavirgo - 16 points, ashandimlotion - 20 points, solovelysosoft - 18 points, BasilGavin - 10 points, heartdeco - 20 points, MaryRhodaPhyllis - 2 points, insuredbycoto - 3 points, RamonaCoasterTycoon - 16 points, readingrachelx - 4 points, MagnificentMistral - 20 points, ConnDeReplay - 5 points, DanaPam - 5 points** rajavirgo says: "I dunno why I like this season so much, it's pretty lowkey." ashandimlotion says: "If there is an objectively best season of RH this is it. Special s/o to Alex McCord who found her voice and was NOT afraid to use it!" solovelysosoft says: "This is a season packed to the brim: not a single episode or member of the cast goes to waste (Jennifer is NOT! CANON!!!!) and it's all the good stuff I expect from RHONY. The Bethenny and Jill feud is so perfectly telegenic: there's not too much to its substance beyond Jill being an asshole out of jealousy and boredom and Bethenny moving on with her life, but every little interaction between them feels HUGE. The breakdown of this friendship may in fact be bigger than the world itself." heartdeco says: "I know it’s a boring pick and will probably win, but it really is that good I’m sorry!!! All killer, no filler. An all-star cast delivering so many legendary moments and episodes we’d be here all day listing them all. Scary Island will probably never be topped as the Housewives vacation (not that they should stop trying). A bright spot of NYC3’s win would be that Luann notches a third straight poll victory." insuredbycoto says: "Despite it being a pretty basic opinion, NY3 really lives up to its reputation and I couldn’t omit it. Tossing it only a few points since I think it will be well-represented. Jill vs. Bethenny and Kelly’s gumberry meltdown really delivered." RamonaCoasterTycoon says: "Ramona's behavior in the first episode alone feels like enough to class this as a top Housewives season, and then...all the rest happens." MagnificentMistral says: "the definitive classic season. the implosion of the bethenny/jill friendship is a mesmerising central conflict, and there are so many other fun moments to pull out. ramona and bethenny on the bridge. ramona’s eyes popping on the runway. jill’s kodak event. scary island. impossible to follow, the zenith of the manhattan moms phase of rhony after only three seasons." ConnDeReplay says: "I am purposely under-ranking this one because I feel like it's such an obvious contender to win and I'm hoping for something a little more surprising, but this is absolutely the most perfect season and I have no doubts it'll sail through this ranking. Jill and B aren't faves of mine but there's no denying they put in the performance of a lifetime, and everyone's own unique brand of insanity is firing on full cylinders. No notes." u/readingrachelx u/heartdeco u/insuredbycoto u/BasilGavin u/DanaPam u/RamonaCoasterTycoon u/MagnificentMistral u/ConnDeReplay u/gaymike219905 u/solovelysosoft u/ashandimlotion u/MaryRhodaPhyllis Discuss! submitted by rajavirgo to RHDiscussion [link] [comments] |
2021.11.20 20:58 PeculiarPangolinMan [Prompt Contest #7] Furious 7 had the perfect ending. X-Statix is a close second. Final Fantasy VIII and King of the Hill are tied for third. (I don't know how to a rant about endings, but I kinda feel like babbling.)
The single finest ending to anything ever: - Furious 7 had the best ending ever. Is there another movie that has made more people cry? That shit hit me in the theaters and literally every time afterwards. I don't know if a movie or series has ever done a send off in a similar way, but it was just too perfect. Without the meta understanding that Paul had passed, it would have been the schlockiest thing that had ever been put to film.... but knowing what we knew? That song still fucking brings a tear to my eye. I cry for a lot of movies/comics/shows/songs/random thoughts/etc, but this one got to me in such a stupid way. Brian just takes an earlier exit and keeps driving down a different road. It's almost too much even thinking about it right now. Shoulda just ended the series right there and then. It would have been one of the most iconic moments in film history if they'd just stopped.
My honorable mention list: - The original X-Statix was SO good. Riffing on boy bands, reality TV, modern (early 2000s) celebrity culture, obsessive fanboys, LGBT representation, extra-legal actions by the government through professional soldiers, the general BS of the Marvel universe.... and it stuck the landing! Everyone just gets killed. The series started with the initial team being killed and the series ends with the new team getting killed. Perfect little circle of entertainment. There'll be a new team on a different network in a week. Doesn't matter how much you loved them, they're dead. The end. It was a perfect way to end a series that ignored all the rules of the time.
- I barely even remember how Final Fantasy VIII went.... but I fucking remember that final scene. All of reality is gone. There is no universe. There is nothing but the connections we've made. It's just an empty void except the love between these kids. You can walk til you die you'll never find anything by yourself. The song was top notch, the cute happy epilogue was endearing, the space suit breaking and the ring floating... I don't know. No RPG has hit that level for me. I've played more fun ones, but to tie up a multiversal deletion plotline with something so pretty and personal just always stuck with me. Plus VIII is better than VII.
- King of the Hill's ending was just too cute. Hank and Bobby finally find something that they can really bond over in grilling meat. Khan shows he's lightened up, Dale and Nancy are together and loving in a way that her and John Redcorn never were, Luanne and Lucky are living life a lot better than most people ever would have expected, Boomhauer is a freaking Texas Ranger, everyone comes to mooch and Hank doesn't care because he really does believe in his community, no matter the reservations he initially showed. It's just adorable. It's so full of love. I know that the later seasons were hit-and-miss, but the finale just made me so happy despite being a semi-reused plotline.
That's my rant on endings! I dunno. Not many properties stick the landing and a few have engrained themselves deep into my psyche. I like sentimental BS and thematically appropriate BS.
