Hold Spells: Will They Get Fixed/Should They Get Fixed?
2023.03.20 22:55 RedditFreeUpOldNames Hold Spells: Will They Get Fixed/Should They Get Fixed?
Let's talk about Hold Monster, the spell that's largely behind why legendary monsters get three free auto-saves. And that's all good and well if you happen to be a legendary monster, but if you're just a plain ol' hydra looking to get five attacks a turn in for a few rounds before you go down to 0 HP, you and your -1 Wis are pretty much a piñata waiting to happen.
There are a lot of issues with it, and it seems like it may be going untouched by 1D&D. Let's go ahead and state the obvious here: a big part of the problem with a spell like Hold Monster isn't Hold Monster. It's that the way saving throws scale--particularly for monsters--amounts to no scaling whatsoever.
Some possbile throttles to consider. Obviously, I'm not suggesting all apply.
- Make it require concentration to sustain the paralysis. This makes it compete with other concentration spells, and so some casters are less encouraged to stock up on it.
- Have the initial effect be that creature is dazed and only after the second fail does the effect become paralysis.
- Have the creature switch from paralyzed to dazed after the creature is struck. Still has to keep making saves at the end of its turned to avoid returning to paralysis.
- Establish a distinction between physical paralysis (from, say, a drug) and mental paralysis of this sort. This lends to creatures like the hydra having the latter to its list of effects to which it has superior resistance.
Look forward to hearing other thoughts on the matter. Similar encounter-busting effects exist elsewhere (turning is an even bigger EB event). Even arguments that HM as-is are worth a listen.

2023.03.20 22:55 Psychological_Ad3745 The love of my life and I might not be sexually compatible anymore and our relationship might be over.
I'm 22F and he's 22M and I think he is the love of my life and I am so scared of losing him. We have great communication and are super mature about our problems and come to each other with respect. We just fit great.
Our main issue has been our sex life these past 8 or 9 months. We used to have a great sex life and chemistry and I was very satisfied. My best friend died in July and I was put off of sex for a few weeks because of my heavy depression but I began initiating two-three weeks after he died. My boyfriend also had depression so his libido was extremely low. I am sexually and physically and emotionally traumatized so my libido went raging . I developed a masturbation addiction and would masturbate dozens of times a day. For months, I tried to communicate that I needed more sex or more head and he really didn't put in that effort.
We've had multiple talks (at least 4-6) about our sex life and what I need. I was a bitch when I was drunk once (but possible more) and we fought about it but I apologized and changed my behavior since then. He never gave me head in our relationships which I brought up repeatedly just to ask him for more head and not much changed. I began to fake orgasm during sex (which I've NEVERR done) so I could help his confidence. I sent him nudes and gave him passionate head and tried to keep sex as a safe topic where I wasn't pushing him. I told him I had fantasies of other men having sex with me and all I wanted was for us to have good sex again so I could get those thoughts out. He has known that our sex life was a core issue and I still didn't feel a single change.
The breaking point was when I gave him head one night and asked if he was willing to reciprocate by fingering me. He was not and that was fine so I masturbated next to him. I asked him at night if he was feeling asexual recently which I think is a valid question but he told me he'd break up with me if I ever asked him that again. At that point, I was really fed up and I decided we should break up for some time to recover and decide what we want sexually.
Here is where either of us could be the asshole. I went to Fort Lauderdale for my senior year spring break three days after our break up. Before leaving, I still wanted to keep boundaries he would be comfortable with. Although I was technically single, I didn't want anyone touching my boobs, vagina, etc nor did I want to even make out or hook up with anyone. I just wanted to be single so I can feel desired and wanted and have the ability to flirt with men. I communicated all of this and he said he wouldn't take me back if I hooked up with anyone but he said kissing women and flirting was fine. I wanted time off for a month or two so I could sort out what I really need sexually versus emotionally. I still knew I wanted him, I just needed space.
Spring break was fun. There was a man at a house party that I thought was attractive and truthfully, I was really drunk so I don't remember a lot. My friend was with me and told me nobody touched me and I didn't even kiss anyone but I did ask for a threesome (which is humiliating but that's my own demon) and the man smacked my ass. The next morning, I was still drunk and called him and apparently one of my friends brought it up. I forgot about that but I was planning on telling him that night regardless. He ended up drunk calling me in rage before I could talk to him and was being really hurtful (bringing up my dead best friend as an attack, etc) and said we were done and that he was repulsed by me.
I get that I hurt his feelings in a low part of his life. I get that I caused him pain and didn't deliver the news the best I could have. But I tried my hardest in our relationship and sex life and didn't see a single change. I am also technically his ex and my cheating was really not the worst thing that could have happened. I could have had sex with a man or even kissed a man and I didn't even break a boundary he set. But I know the intention of me wanting a man hurt him as well as the delivery of it. But also, I had been telling him I was wanting people when I was in our relationship and begged him to help me so I am not sure of the complete shock.
I think he feels disrespected and I'm just tired. I think he should have sex with a woman (anybody) to see if he still wants a woman sexually. I feel unwanted and have for so long, and more so now that he's told me he'd be repulsed by me. I'm just sad and I'm scared of talking to him because he could really hurt me.
I'm sure I've left out details that bias the crowd towards me but any input works. As a last ditch effort, I think we could have a threesome together if he really thinks he wants another woman and could hurt me in that way. I just want him back but I think we need space. I don't know what to do.

2023.03.20 22:55 Rainpours44 How do I move on
Hello, I have severe, crippling health anxiety, phobias and OCD. I’ve been doing better, for most my life I always thought when we were sick that the virus was in control, turns out our bodies make the executive decision as to whether or not we get runny noses, cough, puke, diarrhea, which I think helps me personally a lot because it helps me realize my body isn’t being a victim it’s actually just doing it’s best to keep me alive.
Anyway, last night, got sick and puked, and I think as we all know our mind and bodies don’t always have the same agenda, my mind hates illness and fights it, my body is just trying to keep me alive, just like suicidal thoughts, the mind wants to die. The body does not. Anyway so that happens, for an hour I leave my house and walk around the yard, I end up going to my car, turning music on and falling asleep til 9 am. So like I think that’s successful in just trying to exist
Now here’s the hard part. How do I move on, it’s been 15 hours since I’ve puked but for the life of me I cannot eat or drink, I’m terrified of it, tbh I get so anxious I form eating disorders. How do i overcome this and try to even drink water?

2023.03.20 22:54 samm0b0 Take a £5k paycut for a bit of job satisfaction?
So there's a few moving parts to this, will try and keep it brief but give a bit of context.
I left my old job at the end of 2022 due to there being zero progression within the role. Both a pay rise and any prospective training or shadowing work was also denied, no bad blood here it was merely a business decision that my manager fought for and lost over. This was an I.T Technician role paying just shy of £25k.
I took another job as a Service Delivery Engineer for just roughly £33k, big change from all the I.T work I had done up until this point, a lot of sales, a lot of production, a LOT of project management. Currently, however, I've done roughly a full days worth of work in about 3 weeks and save for about 10% of the daily tasks the role sucks. It seems at a certain point the workload will ramp up, mind you. Scope for progression into Sales Engineer or even Systems Architect is quite high, it's more a matter of when and how.
So here's the kicker, I was recently scouted for an I.T Analyst role who have sinced offered me the job, and I'm struggling to decide whether it would be worth it. Initial pay would be £26.7k, going up to £28.5k in a month, but it has the perks of a 4 day work week, so 31 hours, with half in office, half from home (I'm a fan of the hybrid environment and am currently in office full time). The role itself would actually be a step DOWN from the initial one I left in terms of tasks and daily responsibilities, but there would be the chance to heavily shadow the Infrastructure Engineer lead and learn directly from them quite soon. They have also, however, confirmed they cannot guarantee a position in that team opening up.
My driving force is turning I.T into a longstanding and prospective career, I initially left my previous role in the hopes of moving into Infrastructure/Networking/Engineering in some form. I just want to keep learning primarily.
It's easy to say I highly value my time and work flexibility, as I really do, but I'm also skeptical as this new company is a non profit and couldn't entertain the idea of trying to match my counter offer or meet in the middle based off their original boundaries. So it puts me at unease for the future, but on paper the benefits seem great. I'm also looking to move soon and the hit on the monthly wage could set that back a bit.
I am firmly planted on the fence of stay or leave right now and was wondering if anybody had any helpful insights or have been through a similar position of moving backwards in order to move forwards?

2023.03.20 22:54 ghet2dachoppa America is showing sings it is headed towards a fascist/authoritarian government.
WHAT??? Our founding fathers put forth a structure of checks and balances that ensure nothing Authoritarianism ever happens. While Authoritarianism has never happened, we have seen constitutional failure that resulted in a Civil War. If a Civil War can happen, why is it not possible for the rise of Fascism, or an Authoritarian leader to rise to power. We have already seen an attempt to overthrow the system and keep a leader who clearly lost an election. Since then, we have seen others try to follow that framework. Things like January 6th don’t just happen.
Let’s dive a little deeper into some of the most troubling and signs that our Democracy is fractured and could be in trouble.
A Growing Distrust in Science
I start with this one very purposely due to recency bias with COVID. There has always been an anti-vax movement. In the 1860’s Britain found its first anti-vax movement after the smallpox vaccine was made mandatory with penalties for refusal. In the 1870s, a British anti-vaxer came to America and started the movement. That fizzled out. There have been movements here and there since. The modern movement however can be traced back to 1998 and a British doctor named Andrew Wakefield. Wakefield recommended and falsified data for the MMR vaccine suggestion that the vaccine caused autism. With the newly popular internet, the growing media, and the growth of rapidly growing access to information we end up with a massive conspiracy with legitimacy due to false information. There have always been circles that distrust science, but this one was different. It was mainstream, celebrities got on board, we still live with the fall out and here this one. Wakefield admitted that he did not do a full study, falsified information, and served prison time. He set the cornerstone for a lot of the distrust in science we see today however. His study has helped turn the world into an anti-intellectual society.
There is a lot more we could dig into between Wakefield and COVID but I feel this is enough background at this point. We could get into the science of mRNA, and false perceptions. We could get into the fact that it was identified in the 1960’s and has been in use for medical applications, including vaccines and cancer treatments since the 1990’s and the science has been proven safe for decades. We could get into the fact that 90+% of the ingredients are more or less inert and in use for other vaccines and medicine and has been for decades, but that’s enough of that. Let’s get into COVID and the crippling blow for science that was dealt during COVID.
Rudy Gobert and the NBA shuts the country down. In the US, we watched as Italians sang off balconies during the lockdown. Venice canals turned pure blue due to lack of boat traffic. China was sealed into their houses, sometimes by bolting their doors. We all knew it was coming, then Rudy tests positive for COVID. The NBA cancels games and the rest of the country follows suit. We were in lock down. We know we had a new Coronavirus that was different, easily transferable, and had the potential to be very serious.
Quickly we picked sides. We used the same data points to prove the other side wrong. We used scientists and a shifting understanding of the virus to prove/disprove our feelings about how COVID works. I use the term feeling deliberately. This is the key here. True science does not pick sides, but we pick the sides that best fit our political beliefs. This in turn created a massive influx in false data and further eroded the trust in our scientific community. We had our President as one of the main anti-vax influencers (link:
https://www.psypost.org/2021/06/study-indicates-donald-trump-was-the-main-anti-vaccination-influencer-on-twitter-in-2020-61032) while pumping billions to accelerate a vaccine. A president who was fueling the anti-mask movement while wearing one himself (link:
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-53378439). The face of the scientific community for this issue was not much better. Dr. Faucci starts comes out and says masks don’t work, only to back track and say it was because the masks were needed for health-care workers (link:
https://www.cnn.com/factsfirst/politics/factcheck_e58c20c6-8735-4022-a1f5-1580bc732c45). I use CNN on purpose here as it’s the left calling out the left. This statement had a big effect on the movement as well and further eroded our trust in science. Even more troubling, 36% of Republicans distrust science. If you look at these survey links from 2/15/2022, you can see the results (pew link:
https://www.pewresearch.org/science/2022/02/15/americans-trust-in-scientists-other-groups-declines/ and
https://www.pewresearch.org/science/2022/10/25/americans-value-u-s-role-as-scientific-leader-but-38-say-country-is-losing-ground-globally/). Another troubling shift, is the declining trust in education, you can see where that is going. You can also point to this study and overlay it with how Trump planed the steal the election claim. I feel this is a good stopping point and time to move on to the media. If you want me to detail the timeline of how Trump set up his ability to claim election fraud, I would be happy to spend some hours putting it all together.
The Media
We live in a time where the media is as much of the news as the news is. We have massive cooperation with a 24-hour news cycle which needs constant content to stay afloat. They have their sides and vision for what this country should be. We have less reporters and journalists than people who push propaganda and agendas down our throats. We do not have state or party funded media, but we have media that is attached so much to the parties, there is barely a difference. We have very few fact reporting centered news organizations (link:
https://libguides.com.edu/c.php?g=649909&p=4556556). It is our fault though, very few if any media outlets are not for profit. They are feeding us what we want to hear, not what we need to hear. That’s what sells, and with the race for content and the growing competition, what else can we expect? Then we have the internet which has become media by meme, YouTube, and TickTok (link:
https://www.pbs.org/newshounation/in-the-age-of-memes-how-are-young-people-getting-their-news). With that we have bot farms, hackers, and other foreign agents sponsored by other governments and companies hired by politicians (see Cambridge Analytica) working fairly successfully to undermine our Democracy. We have made a shift to alternative news sources, unreliable news sources, or news sources that are created to mislead the rest of the world. We are fed a stream of propaganda, we eat up, and repeat the misinformation until it becomes true. Fascist and Authoritarian leaders have known for decades, if you can create a big enough echo chamber, anything can become true.
Fringe Groups/People in Places of Power
There are a couple categories here. There are the fringe politicians who take mainstream ideas to the extreme and there are the fringe politicians who are just conspiracy theorists. A.O.C., MTG, Lauren Bobert, Ilham Omar, Trump, and many more. If everything is good, we do not elect fringe politicians. It is a sure sign a shift has happened and it's not good. We are unhappy, we are believing the conspiracies. The propaganda is working. Something is rotten in Denmark. There are many things this can be attributed to including Rapid technological changes, groups feeling marginalized, the two-party system that has been stagnant for decades and has been engaged in tit-for-tat politics since for most of the last century. The A.O.C. group who push the boundaries of mainstream ideas is not necessarily unhealthy. It can be healthy if in the right conditions. Testing the boundaries helps you grow and evolve. You get new ideas, new perspectives. The MTG conspiracy theory group is dangerous. Two things happen with this group, it gives further legitimacy to the conspiracy, and they use the conspiracy to expand their power base. You can trace the great Jewish conspiracy through Europe for centuries and see this. Look at all the “Devine” monarchs. It is all over in history. Typically, there is a group that is pointed at including Jews, LGBTQ+, women, Africans, and Islam to name a few. If there is a them, it's easy to create a us.
Targeting groups
We are seeing this in many areas. It is rapidly becoming more and more prevalent. We have politicians in South Carolina who are trying to pass legislation for women who get abortions. We have politicians in Florida trying to pass legislation so women cannot talk about their periods. We have all kinds of legislation passed against the LGTBQ+ community. We have laws on the book that disproportionately affect various races, and when they bring it up, they are snowflakes. We are building laws and banning citizens from numerous countries. Give us your poor, your week, your huddled masses, as long as they fit the bill. Books are being banned, including some that are formative and important for people to learn how to understand the world, all under the guise to protect our children. We would not want our children learning our true history, we would not want our children learning to accept THEM. We don’t want equality. If THEY have more, WE have less. In a country with 3.5% unemployment, high paying tech jobs that can only be filled by H1V1, we have a good part of the country that would be capable of filling these jobs if we just thought differently. There is enough to go around, but instead of upskilling and getting our citizens into these high paying professional jobs, we are making America great again. America has always been anti-immigrant to a degree but when you start seeing laws passed, the gap between us and them accelerates. As the divide becomes greater, the easier it is to rule based on fear. Historically, this is the gateway to genocide.
Militarization
This one is often overlooked but it is an important one. A sure sign that your country is becoming nationalized is when your military is beyond reproach. Now I am not saying we should not be grateful and kind to those who served. I am saying we should examine our military and hold them accountable when they do something wrong. As we fail to do this, the nation starts to come before all. If someone speaks out against injustice, disrespects the flag, the office of the president, they are ostracized. It starts with militarization. Once the military becomes beyond reproach, civil servants are next. You can see this throughout history. Look at Vietnam, look at Nazi and the Kaiser's Germany, really almost any authoritarian regime.
I am not saying we are at the tipping point. I am saying the signs are there. Unless we can start to find a way to come back to the middle, the divide will continue and we may end up in an authoritarian state.

2023.03.20 22:53 ryeguyy3d Out of ideas
Hi all, I'm trying to get klipper running on my CR-6 max and I've tried everything I can think of and it's still failing on the 3rd layer.
So far I've tried:
Rotation distance of the z axis - it's perfect at 8 I have a set of 123 blocks for calibration and when I request 25.4mm the 1 inch block fits perfectly underneath.
Calibrated the extruder - it was over extruding a bit so after a little while when I request 50mm of filament it extrudes 50mm
Played with a few slicer settings, I was using prusa slicer so I tried super slicer to see if that made a difference and nothing. I then tried to slow the print down to see if speed was an issue and of course no. Tried lowering extrusion width and nothing
Then I calibrated the strain gauge, which if anyone has done it's a terrible process.
Then I looked at the bed mesh, realized I had fade on starting at layer 1 and ending layer 10 so I took that out and tried again. Nothing.
Then I screwed all the bed screws down all the way and leveled the bed from there. It's a 400x400 and it's now within .08mm variance so I think it's as close to perfect as it's ever been.
Then is said f it and went back to marlin and have perfect prints.
I have to be missing something... I'll post my printer file if anyone smarter than me can take a look.
Printer file:
!CR-6 Max
printer_size: 400x400x400
version: 3.4
This file contains pin mappings for the Creality CR-6 SE
with a V4.5.3 board.
To use this config, during "make menuconfig" select the STM32F103
with a "28KiB bootloader" and serial (on USART1 PA10/PA9)
Flash this firmware on the MCU by copying "out/klipper.bin" to an SD
card and turning the printer on with the card inserted. The firmware
filename must end in ".bin" and must not match the last filename
that was flashed.
The machine itself includes a small router that can run a Klipper
frontend. You don't need to buy a single-board computer.
See docs/Config_Reference.md for a description of parameters.

2023.03.20 22:53 Icy-Inflation-1545 Top 10 Best Wi-Fi Router
Figuring out what the best router for your needs can be complicated. We've tested the top Wi-Fi router brands so you can find the right one for your needs.
Take a look at this list:
https://quizience.com/best-wi-fi-routers-for-2022/
TP-Link Archer AX21
Best budget router
Wi-Fi Standard
Wi-Fi 6
Speed Rating
AX1800
Range
Up to 2,500 sq. ft.
Wireless Networking Security
WPA3
Bands
Dual-Band (2.4 and 5GHz)
Available for $100 (or less if you catch a sale), the TP-Link Archer AX21 is an entry-level, dual-band Wi-Fi 6 router that supports top speeds of up to 1,201Mbps (1.2Gbps) on its 5GHz band. It's nothing fancy, but it offered near flawless performance for small- to medium-size homes in our tests, and it's a cinch to setup and use thanks to TP-Link's Tether app.
Best of all, when tested against other, similar routers from names like Asus and Netgear, the AX21 held its own with faster download speeds, better range, and low latency, too. Add in a functional bandsteering mode that automatically steers you between the 2.4 and 5GHz bands within a single network, plus guest network controls and even a quality of service engine for prioritizing traffic to the most important devices on your network, and you're looking at a decent home networking upgrade that's as simple and affordable as it gets. It isn't powerful enough to max out speeds on a gigabit network, but it can still hit consistent close-range speeds near 700Mbps or so, which is more than enough for most households. Read our TP-Link Archer AX21 review.
Linksys Hydra Pro 6 (MR5500)
Best midrange router
Wi-Fi Standard
Wi-Fi 6
Speed Rating
AX5400
Range
Up to 2,700 sq. ft.
Wireless Networking Security
WPA2, WPA3
Bands
Dual-Band (2.4 and 5GHz)
If you've already got a budget router running your network and you're ready to upgrade to something more powerful, the Linksys Hydra Pro 6 belongs high on your list. With a dual-band, AX5400 build, full support for Wi-Fi 6, and 160MHz channel support for moving data more efficiently, it was an excellent performer in my speed tests, even managing to outperform flashier picks like the also great Asus RT-AX86U.
The Hydra Pro 6 is a touch pricey as dual-band routers go, but the steady, consistent performance makes it a standout. Try and catch it on sale if you can, but if you just want a reliable, no-frills router that can keep up with gigabit speeds, look no further. Read our Linksys Hydra Pro 6 review.
TP-Link Deco W7200
Best mesh router overall
Wi-Fi Standard
Wi-Fi 6
Speed Rating
AX3600
Range
Up to 5,500 sq. ft. (two devices)
Wireless Networking Security
WPA2, WPA3
Bands
Tri-Band (2.4 and two 5GHz)
For the best performance from your mesh router, you'll want to prioritize getting one with support for Wi-Fi 6, plus a tri-band design that includes three separate bands of traffic: the usual 2.4 and 5GHz bands, plus an additional 5GHz band that the system can use as a dedicated wireless backhaul for transmissions between the router and its satellites. Most mesh routers like that cost at least $300 or even $400, but the TP-Link Deco W7200 gets you there for less than $250.
That's the best deal I've seen for a tri-band mesh router with support for Wi-Fi 6 -- and sure enough, it's an excellent performer, as well. In fact, the only system that managed to outperform it outright in my at-home speed tests is the AX6000 version of Netgear Orbi, which costs more than three times as much (keep reading for more on that one). On top of that, TP-Link's setup process is about as easy as it gets, with satellite extenders that automatically join the mesh as soon as you plug them in. Read our TP-Link Deco W7200 review.
Asus RT-AX86U
Best gaming router
Wi-Fi standard
Wi-Fi 6
Speed Rating
AX5700
Range
Up to 2,500 sq. ft.
Wireless Networking Security
WPA3
Bands
Dual-Band (2.4 and 5GHz)
Gaming routers promise high performance and low latency for die-hard gamers, and it isn't uncommon to find them selling for $300 or even $400. At about $270 or less, the Asus RT-AX86U dual-band router isn't inexpensive either, but it's a strong value relative to routers like those -- and the performance it delivers as a gaming router is flat-out great.
Most noteworthy is the router's latency management. In fact, it leads all of the routers I've ever tested, gaming or otherwise, with the lowest average latency across all of my tests, which online gamers will definitely appreciate. Something else you'll appreciate: An excellent mix of app-based controls and features, including a mobile boost mode, that lets you prioritize gaming traffic to your phone at the touch of a button.
Gaming features aside, the RT-AX86U offers full support for Wi-Fi 6, with strong, stable speeds and good range. If you need additional range, you can add other Asus "AIMesh" devices to your home network to make it the centerpiece of a mesh.
That checks off all of the boxes that most people want from a good gaming router, and it gets you there at a price that isn't too painful for us to recommend. Even if you aren't a gamer, this is still one of the best Wi-Fi 6 routers you can buy right now. Read our list of the best gaming routers.

2023.03.20 22:52 dolphinpasta I’ll be turning 21 soon and have no one left in my life, i feel like a loser
turning 21 soon, have no friends left. i had 2 friends i’ve been clinging onto for the past 3-4 years since my high school “friend” group ghosted me and cut me off junior year. i fear they’ve both moved on with life and have no room in it for me.
one has been dating this girl for about 8-9 months now and considering they do everything together and she moved into his college apartment with him i have no doubt he will propose soon and completely move on with life. i guess i shouldn’t complain, he’s been pretty toxic since he started dating her anyways and she’s literally all that he is willing to talk about and will abruptly change the subject to go back to her (or previous girls he’s allegedly hooked up with) no matter what it is we could be discussing at the time.
other friend was staying at my place for about a month or two, and it was cool. i live with my parents now but he’s basically a part of the family so they don’t care. anyways after the holidays were over he left and has grown more and more distant. he’s still in touch with his high school friendgroup and they’ve been going out of town and hanging out 24/7. he’s been making less of an effort to reach out to me or include me to the point where i haven’t really seen or heard from him since a week before spring break.
so that’s it. while everyone else i knew from high school is living it up, making huge moves forward in life, having fun in college and having extravagant birthday/holiday celebrations i’ll be spending my 21st alone… at my parents house… broke and with no friends.

2023.03.20 22:50 PepperAntique Wait, is this just GATE? (332/?)
Previous Writer's note: Short sections with updates about all kinds of people. And Vickers faces his greatest threat ever. Enjoy. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"So the last round is a four person free for all?" James asked as he saw the tournament finale.
"Yes." Amina said. "Once you've been struck seven times you'll be locked out of the fight and you'll be immobilized and shielded until it's over. Here's what's going to happen."
"So we're really not going to talk about the centaur in the room?" James asked.
"James focus." Amina said, ignoring his quip. "You, myself, and this Raend fellow are going to team up against the Glag."
"Okay so it as A... Glag?" James asked. "Glag isn't its name."
"It's both." Amina said simply. "That's neither here nor there. We need to work together to defeat the Glag or else we'll all be defeated within the first minute of the fight."
James's eyebrows furrowed at that. He looked over at the spot where the Glag(?) was standing in the corner of the room. Once again it seemed to be staring straight ahead with its mouth agape and drooling out the slurry of stone and saliva.
"That thing?" He asked. "You sure?"
"Okay." Amina said with her hands in front of her face in a prayer position as she took a deep breath. "James, that thing is a sentient variation of an earth elemental. It's faster than it looks. It's.... well... it's not SMARTER than it looks. But it is much more clever than you're probably giving it credit for. Besides which, remember what the devices on out chests are designed to signal for?"
James looked down at the small brass and crystal device. "Yeah. Hits." He said.
She poked his forehead with a finger. "Hits that would be lethal in a real fight." She reminded him. "Which for you and me means basically anything anyone in this tournament can throw at us. Now. Tell me. What's lethal for an elemental made of stone?"
"Oh." He said once he thought of the question for a moment.
"Yeah." She said. Then she made a face and her hand moved to her stomach.
James quickly looked around to see if anyone was watching, and when he saw the one other humanoid fighter in the room, presumably Raend, was busy reading a book, he turned to Amina and moved to provide her a bit of cover.
"You okay?" He asked.
Amina took several deep breaths and steeled herself a bit. "Yes. Though morning sickness is an incredibly inaccurate term."
"Need some water or something?" He asked. Then he thought of the hit she'd taken at the end of her fight with Gorna. "Say, maybe this wasn't a good idea. Having you in this tournament."
"Not a chance." She said as she spit a bit of saliva out into the nearby spittoon. "Besides. There's no way you win against that thing with only two people."
"Seriously?" James asked. "We are talking about that guy right?" He reiterated with a thumb over his shoulder as the two of them approached Raend.
Glag continued staring passively at the rack of spears that was in front of him.

Vickers had just finished talking to the owner of the building that the letter had specified, the same one he had been converted in, when he heard a familiar armored gait approaching. He folded the letter from the council and put it in his back pocket, and was walking around the wagon with the silver barbed mesh that would line the rooms for Five and Driscoll when he ran into the owner of the familiar stride pattern.
"Well. Looks like we get to-" His voice trailed off as he looked at the unexpected arrival. Then he looked up higher. "You're not Atrafar." He said with a cocked eyebrow. The hand that had just put the letter away slid up his back until it was resting on his pistol. He'd had to break off and then file down the trigger guard to be able to use it again.
"No. No I'm not." The massive, grey and white muzzled, werewolf in Outer Light armor said with a cocked eyebrow of its own.
"The council sent you?" Vickers asked. "You're overseeing the conversion?"
The wolf looked down at his armor for a moment. "Looks that way." He said. "I assume that you're Chief Anthony Vickers?"
"Yeah." The SEAL answered as the large wolf began to slowly look him up and down.
After a few moments of awkward silence the newcomer spoke up again. "Night brothers are rare. You're smaller than she makes you sound." He said as he approached the wagon and casually lifted one of the silver mesh bundles with his gauntleted hand.
Vickers donned a confused expression. "Than who makes me sound?"
"My daughter." The wolf said as it carefully walked into the building with the bundle, grabbing one of the tool bags from the side of the wagon with his empty hand. "Atrafar. I'm Outer Light Commander De'Lius Dauntless. Retired. Though I've been recalled for the next few days." He said as he disappeared into the door. "Let's get to work."
Vickers tried to bite his lip, forgetting that his new facial structure didn't exactly allow that particular expression. "Fuck." He said under his breath.
He reached over to one of the remaining bundles on the wagon and tried to lift it. It took a bit of effort, and he wasn't able to one hand it like the Commander had. But eventually he got it onto his shoulder and went inside as well.
"Fuck fuck fuuuuuuck." He said as he went inside.
------------------------
Werner slowly emerged from the third and final slumber to the sight of the healing ward's ceiling.
"There she is." Said the voice of Margaret Choi. "How are you Ambassador? Are you with us?"
Werner felt the back of the bed raising a bit, putting her into a slanted seated position.
"Yeah." She said before breaking into a yawn. "How did it go?"
"Well that really depends on you." Nurse Choi said. "As far as everything on our side is concerned the procedure went off without a hitch. How do you feel?"
She thought about it for a moment. "I fell okay I guess." Then a slightly more pressing issue presented itself. "I need to pee really badly."
"Well that's good." Nurse Choi replied. "I only removed your catheter about an hour ago. So that'll be a good chance to make sure that part went well. Though I'm sure it did. Come on and stand up."
Werner did as instructed and saw the Minotaur, Shrend, standing off to the side and looking at her charts. "Healer Farstorm." She greeted him.
"Welcome back Ambassador." Shrend said with a warm smile. "Things went well. Please follow Mrs. Choi and she'll get you where you need to go."
Ten minutes later, and much more relieved, she was back in the room and undergoing tests. They ran her through a familiar gamut of motor skill, walking stability, and various cognitive tests. Nurse Choi compared the results to the records that Earth had sent over for them.
By the time they were done it was nearly night again, and Werner was hovering on the border of breaking out into tears.
"Well Ambassador." Shrend said as he and Nurse Choi looked over the results and comparisons. "I don't want to count my drakes before they hatch. But if these results mean what Mrs. Choi says they do, then I think it's been a success. I really need to work on understanding English so I can read these more easily." He joked.
"I haven't scored that well since I was in my twenties." Werner said as she fought to keep her eyes dry.
"Well hopefully it stays that way for a long time." Nurse Choi said as she placed a hand on Werner's shoulder. The other hand grabbed a towel and handed it to her. "It's okay to be happy." She whispered softly.
Werner took the advice and let herself cry for a bit. The Nurse rubbed her back a little as she slowly got herself back under control and wiped her face.
"Thank you so much." She said between sobbing bouts.
"Oh. No need for that." Shrend said. "Healing and helping people is what we do. Now let's see about getting you back to your quarters and we'll have you back tomorrow for a bit more testing."
"Okay." She said as she let the nurse help her back to her feet.
She didn't stumble, or misstep at all in the ten or so minutes it took to get back. And by the time she got there she felt like she was floating.
--------------------
"You want to do what?" King Farrick asked.
"I've been ordered to restart testing on transmittal of living specimens to Earth from Petravus your majesty." Col. Muhammed said flatly. "We've set up a pressure chamber that can handle that particular issue and help them depressurize. Plus we have reason to believe that our world has become magically saturated enough that even a Petravian citizen should be able to survive the trip. Though, obviously we'll be starting with Earth citizens."
She pressed a button and a series of windows appeared on his screen, showing videos of people performing feats of strength and speed similar to what some of the Earth people in the castle were capable of now. Some of the videos showed people performing magical spells, though they were all simply, fire and wind attacks, moving earth, summoning light. Some of them showed people accidentally dealing with the carnage that some of that resulted in. There was a news segment, with Petravian subtitles put in place for him, talking about something called an "Influencer" dying after they attempted to fly over something called the Grand Canyon.
"I had assumed as much." He said after a few minutes of watching the curious footage. No matter how many times he saw them, videos amazed him. "I take it that you intend to have the Ambassador send over a few of the people we released."
"That's the long term goal." She admitted openly. "For now we intend to start with small wildlife. Rats or something equivalent. We're not looking to risk any human, or humanoid, life just yet."
"Hmm. Fair enough." He concurred. "You might be happy to know that my healers say that Ambassador Werner has emerged from her final rejuvenation session and all signs point toward a healthy recovery."
The Colonel smiled, and for the first time King Farrick thought it might have been a genuine one.
"That's excellent news." She said. "If the therapy proves fully successful, or hell even partially, that will revolutionize the medical field on our world. Did Nurse Choi take notes?"
"Extensive ones." The King said. "As did our chief healer."
"I look forward to reading them. Whenever you're willing to send them."
The King leaned forward a bit, knowing that he was at an advantage in this exchange
"Tell me." He said as he continued watching the footage that was rapidly changing on his screen. "What kind of magical trouble are the people over there causing?"

2023.03.20 22:49 porky11 Recommended image viewer for reading comics
I want a simple general purpose image viewer, which is suitable for reading comics.
Important features:
- should keep the zoom when I switch to the next page
- the next page should start from the top if zoomed in
- it should be able to open whole directories or a list of selected images in command line
- it should be difficult to accidentally switch pages (too many image viewers let you use mouse wheel left and right to switch images, while mouse scrolling is still the best way to zoom)
- files should be sorted by name, numbers should be sorted by decimal values, not by digits (..., Test8.png, Test9.png, Test10.png, Test11.png, ...)
- scrolling should be smooth, but not too slow (often mouse scrolling is way too fast, and if arrow key scrolling is supported, it's too fast)
- multi touch controls would be nice, too, for my touch laptop
When I think about it, I will be able to write it in a few hours. I already know pretty well how I want it to be and I've created a bunch of graphical programs in Rust already, so I know the tools.
But if there already is a perfect tool, there is no need to reinvent the wheel. Can it really be so difficult to get a proper image viewer on Linux?

2023.03.20 22:49 Limp-Gas8229 Met someone (I've been 21m 4 months and she was 17f turning 18 on March 4th) I played things the right way and still got shunned, ostracized and called a "groomer".
A few months ago, when I was 20, I met a girl through some mutual friends on Discord. We became friends almost instantly. Talked about fandoms we were in, art, church, cosplay, family, values, mindsets for the future and school(we're both in college) I found out through a mutual friend that she was 17. I was both worried and calm about it, because I've never liked/courted anyone younger than me, but I've also never been someone that asks for nudes or anything inappropriate nor was I manipulative or predatory. She said it herself. We'd ended up taking a liking to each other, though we both agreed to place several healthy and platonic boundaries for each other as neither of us were ready for a serious relationship. I figured that waiting for her to turn 18 or beyond to even approach her about a relationship of any kind was appropriate and fair for her to get adjusted to adult freedom and lifestyle. (keep this in mind for later.) I also wanted her to stay committed to school (and it even inspired me to enroll back in and finish my final year!)
We didn't spend too much time together, but the time that we did spend on call was great! We'd watch anime, talk about life, even game together. My friends often told me to be careful and be cautious and I always was. Not a single negative/ulterior motive crossed my mind. I just knew I'd met someone who got me as much as I'd got her. We were happy. Happy until one of our mutuals kept questioning our connection. I stated several times that we were what you consider "courting" which is having a high interest in one another but not exactly dating. I had to remind people we knew multiple times that nothing sexual was happening between us and that emotional connection was the dominating force of our duo. Over and over again I explained this and almost overnight, I lost my friends, whom I considered a 2nd family to me, as they felt betrayed by how I conducted myself for standing up for what I thought was right. One former mutual friend mentioned that me waiting for her to be of age was grooming. I felt hurt, because I'd never imagine grooming someone, as I take that sort of manipulative behavior incredibly seriously. Even the girl herself told me she never considered what we had grooming and never considered me creepy. This has caused problems for my rep.
After that, I was kicked out of both of my social circles(we were all mutuals), even after explaining that there's been a misunderstanding and that there were no signs of manipulation to go on. I didn't think 3.5 was a huge age gap, nor did I believe I was grooming anyone. I've been thinking about it night and day for this entire month, and I've been praying for clarity and some sort of reconciliation with both the girl and my friend group. I've never been so alone nor depressed. It keeps me up at night replaying it all over and over. Can someone tell me if I was actually in the wrong (if so, I take full accountability) or is this social media trying to turn a molehill into a mountain? I do feel that I may have brought this upon myself and I could've handled things much better. One thing I've learned from this is to drop anyone first instinct if you find out they're underage(even if they're on the literal verge of coming of age, it could be trouble!)
(Note: As stated before, as someone who is an uncle to two precious and bright kids, I take things like this seriously. I completely understand the need to protect younger people, this world is crazy! As a God-fearing man, I would never hurt, manipulate, or groom anyone of any age, knowingly or willingly and would never try to justify it.)
(Another Note: I've dated women my age and above before, so before you come for me in the comments about me trying to get with someone younger or being predatory, stop it.)

2023.03.20 22:49 Intallygence Review & Feedback
Probably a small Reddit community (compared to 5m users on Google play), but I still wanted to share my experience and feedback.
Don't get me wrong. This app is near perfect. I had a few pet peeves with other apps and I was pretty sure timetune was going to be "one of them". But honestly I was quite surprised.
What's perfect: - Fair. Useful features don't have to be paid for. - Scheduling alerts. Alerts can be scheduled in a combination of days + hours + minutes beforehand, allowing me to specifically tailor the alert to the time I prefer. - A superb widget (android). Allowing days of scrolling is one of the best features that even other apps did not think of. - Wide variety of colour and logo design for tags. Very nice touch to aesthetics which matters.
Though thankful for the above mentioned, I do understand timetune proactively reviews feedback and are open to suggestions. So I wanted to contribute with a few suggestions below.
Don't get me wrong, even if the app doesn't change it's already perfect, but just some future features to consider: - When configuring alerts, show the date/time the alert will be triggered. For example, if I set an alert for a 10pm task to come 1 day and 2 hours before, perhaps show the proposed alert time so users don't have to manually do the math. The logic to achieve this should be simple (coding perspective). - Incorporate blocks created in templates into "blocks" tab. Currently, blocks created in templates are not incorporated. I'm not sure if this is intentional, but "blocks" tab no longer provides a holistic view in this case. This may be an intentional omission, but do consider incorporating it. - Allow reapplying the same template as an overlap. I tried using the template feature and created multiple tasks. I applied it to one of the days and accidentally removed a task. Re-applying the same template does not recreate that ask since it has been removed accidentally. The workaround is to duplicate a template, and apply the new template, followed by removing the old one, and renaming the newly cloned template. Hopefully templates can be re-applied.
Nothing else I can think of, honestly. I read some suggestions by other users and didn't see any of my pointers repeated, so hopefully this helps. Forgive me if there are any repeats which I may have missed out.
All that said, keep up the good work. This app really helps me in managing my time and I wanted to shout-out to the developers. THANK YOU. Really, thank you.

2023.03.20 22:48 Ok_Main_5148 Best Wi-Fi Router 2022?

First Writer's note: Short sections with updates about all kinds of people.

2023.03.20 22:47 DoubleFlip Lavalier Audio Problem (possibly the cable?)
So I recorded a video with my Lavalier mic (Sony UWP-D11). I always record with this, with no problem. I misplaced the cable that goes from the Lav (output jack) into my camera, so I used another 3.5mm cable I had laying around. (The mic cable and microphone I speak into was still the same one I always use.) I tested beforehand and on playback I could barely hear it from the camera's audio. So I transferred to my PC and it worked fine, audio sounded normal. So I said whatever, let's just film it. Everything came out fine when I transferred the files to the PC. I edited the video, and released it today on facebook and youtube. then I got comments saying all they could hear was background music and no audio from me when I was speaking.
I tested it out myself and I heard it fine, video seemed good. Some friends agreed, while others sent me screen recordings of it having the same issues some commenters had. The sound was very distorted.
I was curious if it was the cable (I'm assuming) or if it was something in editing? I didn't touch the audio in editing except some levels like I always do. But the cable that I usually use has a spin lock mechanism to keep it tight in place. The ones I had laying around were for some headphones I use to game with. So I'm gonna bet it's that but why? They're essentially the same cable, no?
I might have to order a new cable which is fine, but why is it fine for some people and not for others? Also someone turned off bluetooth and the audio worked fine for them. Some said even with it off, it still didn't work.
I just might have to re-shoot the video, but was hoping I'm overlooking something.
EDIT: sent my friend a raw file clip and it's still messed up. Has to be the cable, I'm just gonna re-record the entire video.

I'm not prone to doing things like this but I'm reaching out because things like this haunt me, back some time roughly around the 2010's before flash shutdown I remember playing this one game about managing a city that was situated between two rivers, I remember that there were two factions, red and blue, and that one of them would deal in slaves from their wars or something, You could free them and make them citizens and all that jazz, it was hosted on kongregrate and as far as I remember from its art style it was probably flash, I cant remember its name but it was nigh unpronounceable which was what stymied my search and had me turn to here, thanks for any help you guys can offer, and keep up the awesome work.

2023.03.20 22:45 SideFit8721 Can menopause make you feel like a completely different person?
I know menopause takes an extremely huge toll on you. But can it make you feel like a completely different person?
My (19f) mother (53f) has turned into a toxic, lying, manipulative person. She never has a handle on her emotions. She’s constantly picking fights, acting like a teenager, and doing and saying crazy things. It all came to a head last month when she told my husband she has feelings for him. Which is honestly another story so I won’t get into that. Basically, she’s been acting so unstable the last 2.5 years and keeps saying that’s because her menopause started then. This is not the woman who raised me. This is not the loving mother who would do anything for her children, to defend them, care for them, and love them. This is not the self sacrificing, giving woman I’ve known all my life. My brother has said several times over the last couple years that he doesn’t even recognize her anymore. I recently talked to an aunt, my moms SIL, who has known her for 30 years. She says my mother used to act much worse than she is now, and my dad was constantly having to “handle her when she would get like that”. Meaning he would call her out in private or in front of people, for “acting crazy like this”. He died 6.5 years ago, and she has never been the same. She never sought out any sort of therapy (till now) despite everyone telling her to. Now I’m just worried that this is the real her coming out, and that it was just dormant all these years when she had kids. Or is it really just the effects of menopause that will inevitably pass? I’m really hoping that’s what it is. I miss my mom.
